at team championships in Markham

The Huron Hurricanes
Aquatic Club traveled to
Markham with 21 representa-
tives at the end of April to
compete against over 30 other
small teams from all over
Ontario. This three-day major
competition lead to many
personal best times and some
very fast racing from all the
Hurricanes in attendance.
Some specific swimmers
who beat personal times were
to Emma Bernier, Maddie
Ivatts, Noah Middleton, Emily
Pokrywka-Kovacs and Anna
Trick.
Bernier obtained personal
best times in all five of her
races and the relay, taking
off a total of 31 seconds and
earning the "gnome of the
meet" as voted by her peers.
Both Maddie Ivatts and
Natalie VanNiejenhuis fin-
ished in the top 8 in the
13-14 year-old girls age cate-
gory. Ivatts brought home a
bronze medal in her 50 free,
a 5th place ribbon in her 200
fly and achieved 5th in her
100 free and 7th in her 100
fly.
Natalie finished 6th in her
100 back, 200 back and 800
free and also placed 7th in
her 200 breast stroke race.
Natasha Dobos earned an
8th place ribbon in her 800
free.
The relay teams did an
amazing job racing in the
11-12 girls free relay team
placing 7th, the 13-14 girls
free relay placed 5th and 4th
in the medley relay, narrowly
missing the bronze medals.
The relays earned almost
as many points as the indi-
vidual swims, and overall the
Hurricanes placed 21st.
