Two New WWI Short Films
On Saturday, May 7, 2016, the
Huron County Museum will launch
two new short films about World War
I with an afternoon event at the
Museum. Visit the Museum at 110
North St. at 2 - 4 p.m. for a first
chance to view the films and explore
the History Hall, which has been
decorated in 1916 fashion. In addi-
tion to previewing the films, the
event will also debut two new iPad
apps in the Military Gallery that con-
tain photographs, documents, and
letters from the Home Front and
Front Lines. With funding from the
Department of Canadian Heritage,
the successful completion of the
World War I film project allows the
Huron County Museum to share a
fascinating era of Huron County
history with the world. During
WWI, many community groups,
including Women's Institutes,
schools, and churches, made sure
they "did their bit" by knitting
socks, raising money for the Red
Cross, and sending care packages
to local soldiers overseas. Over
thirty local women enlisted as
nursing sisters with the Canadian
Army Medical Corps, severing in
Casualty Clearing Stations and hos-
pitals in the Mediterranean, Eng-
land, France, and Canada. Both
documentaries feature photo-
graphs, letters, and newspapers
articles from the Huron County
Archives collection. Join us as we
celebrate making Huron County's
WWI history more accessible to
local residents, veterans families,
and everyone else around the
world. For more information about
this event or the collection, please

County Museum, 519.524.2686 ext.

"Home in Huron" Opens at the Museum
A new exhibit opens on April
30, 2016 in Goderich at the
Huron County Museum. Travel
through historic downtowns,
across a farmer's field, and
down the coast of Lake Huron
as part of Huron County Muse-
um's newest temporary
exhibit, "Home in Huron': Dur-
ing the past year, residents
were encouraged to submit
photos of present day Huron
County to commemorate the
County's 175th anniversary.
There was an overwhelming
response from the community
with hundreds of photos being
received. The exhibit features
an array of images depicting
agricultural practices, archi-
tectural details, wildlife, recre-
ational activities, and scenes
from nature, as well as some
photos from the Museum's
archival collection. The exhibit
also features a soundscape of
Huron County and vintage
films from the late 1940s. For
