Central Huron man faces more than a dozen charges after two cars, case of beer stolen
A 25 -year-old man from
Central Huron is in police cus-
tody after Huron County OPP
were called about a car that was
driven onto the lawn of a Salt -
ford resident on Thesday.
Huron County OPP has laid
over a dozen charges against
the accused in connection to a
series of events that unfolded
on April 26 after a resident of
Saltford Road called to
complain about a possible
impaired driver who had
parked a Plymouth sedan on
their front lawn.
The driver tried to leave the
property in the vehicle, but it
was too badly damaged. The
driver then abandoned the car
and took off on foot heading
toward the Maitland River car-
rying a case of beer.
Officers were able to locate
the male driver walking toward
the river, where he was arrested
for impaired driving. He refused
to provide a breath sample.
Further police investigation
revealed the driver started his
crime spree that morning in
Clinton.
The accused started off by
allegedly stealing an unlocked
2005 Ford F-150 pickup truck
from a Huron Street business.
He later drove to a property
located on Bluewater Veteran's
Highway where he allegedly
forced entry into the residence
and stole a case of beer. He then
abandoned the pickup truck
and allegedly stole a Plymouth
sedan from the residence.
The episode continued
when the driver was
observed spinning his tires
on several front lawns
located on Westmount Line.
After tearing up the lawns
the driver took off with the
damaged vehicle where it
came to a stop at the Saltford
Road property, police said.
The accused faces 13
charges, including two counts
of theft of a motor vehicle over
$5,000, break and enter,
impaired driving, refuse to
provide breath sample,
driving while disqualified,
driving under suspension,
mischief while under suspen-
sion, four counts of mischief
under $5,000 and two counts
of fail to comply with proba-
tion order.
He remains in custody with
a video court appearance
scheduled for April 29, 2016 at
the Ontario Court of Justice in
Goderich.
