Six years ago, the St. Anne's
girls' hockey team was the
worst in the league and now
they are amoung the top
teams.
Six years ago, St. Anne's
teacher Steve Geiger started
coaching the team; Geiger had
coached the boys' hockey team
for eight years before that. Since
Geiger started coaching the
girls, they have accumulated
many talented, committed
players and the team has
improved exponentially.
Most recently, the team won
a large tournament in London
with teams from all across the
province. It was St. Anne's first
time at that tournament.
"We've never gone because
it's two days and it's expensive,"
sad Geiger, "But I thought, you
know what, this year we're

The St. Anne's girls' hockey team.
St. Anne's biggest competitor.
The Stratford school has won
gold at OFSAA for the past two
years.
To qualify for OFSAA, you
must first win WOSAA. To
qualify for WOSAA in this
area, you must win the Huron -
Perth championships. For the
past two years, St. Anne's has
won Huron -Perth silver
behind St. Michael.
However Geiger said the
two teams are close in compe-
tition. The two teams recently
played in a tournament on
November 21, and St. Anne's
was up 2-0 at one point, but
ended up losing 3-2 in a
shootout. He said that specta-
tors agreed St. Anne's had out
played St. Michael.
The two teams haven't
played a league game yet
this year, however their first
one will be on January 9 in
Stratford. They will also
play St. Michael on
Wednesday, February 15 at
1:45 p.m. in Clinton. Geiger
is trying to arrange for all of
St. Anne's to attend this
game, though nothing has
been finalized.
