Brucefield hosts TRIP of a Lifetime Concert to support refugee family
Special to the Clinton News Record
Members of the Tuckersmith
Refugee Project are hoping for a
packed house on Saturday, April
23 as Brucefield Community
United Church hosts its fundrais-
ing TRiP of a Lifetime Concert.
The theme of the concert evokes
the heroic adventure that our ref-
ugee family is making as they
leave all they have known behind
to embrace a new country and a
new culture. The title also echoes
the acronym for the sponsoring
Tuckersmith Refugee Project
- TRP.
The concert will comprise a
variety of local artists from the
four church communities per-
forming a wide array of music
centred on the theme of the
voyage.
The popular Clinton -based
family band "The Honey Sweet-
hearts" will kick off with their
newest set with a lively Cana-
dian twist, while singer guitarist
Tom Burke performs a melody
by Adele - and some cowboy
swing by Keith Whitely. Ivan
Rivers and Jillien Regier provide
an upbeat set of original music
while Kelly and Morgan Marks
appeal once again to the family
audience.
The Vanastra Community
Christian Reform Praise team will
bring another dimension to the
concert. Then the popular "thato-
therchoir" under the direction of
Louise Dockstader will change
the music channel once again.
Willi Laurie who has performed
contemporary music for many
years in her home church will
take you on an emotional voyage
with her music. Sarah Broadfoot
is returning to her home church
with partner Gerard Creces for
some more upbeat numbers. And
expect some gospel numbers
from Chris Lane from Vanastra.
Just for fun, you may see a bit of
mix and match as various artists
combine their talents together.
And of course the Brucefield
Community United Church Choir
and Friends will also perform
several beautiful and inspiring
contemporary pieces. But they
will not be above getting the audi-
ence involved, too.
The Tuckersmith Refugee Pro-
ject comprises Brucefield Com-
munity United Church,
Egmondville United Church,
Vanastra Community Christian
Reform Church and Clinton
United Church. They are spon-
soring a family of five which
includes a husband and wife,
and mother-in-law, with two
young boys of two and four
years of age. The father was a
trained electrician in Syria and
his wife was a primary teacher.
The family have been living in
Lebanon for several months
with the father being able to
find under-the-table work there
to sustain them as they await the
various required security and
health screenings. So our family
is "in process" and we will get
between five and fourteen days
notice of their arrival. They and
their extended families have
endured unspeakable hardships
in their home country and we
want to welcome them to a safe
and peaceful home.
Housing in Egmondville has
been secured and furniture and
household items have been
donated so we are well on our
way with their TRiP of a Lifetime!
Be sure to come out and enjoy
this fun and uplifting concert and
help contribute to a great cause
that will change lives forever.
The show starts at 7 pm at
