and district, to be held Satur-
day, Dec. 14th; and $10.00 to
the Royal Canadian Legion
Christmas tree fund.
It was deckled to sponsor a
peewee hockey team this win-
ter, Jack Walker showed films
on fishing and wrestling.
Auxiliary Elects Officers
At the Christmas meeting of
Hensall Legion Auxiliary, held
Tuesday evening, the following
slate of officers were elected for
1964:

Mrs. Ed. Roberts; secretary,
Mrs. William Forrester; treas-

tend a meeting to discuss for-
mation of a school for retarded
children in the area..
Mrs. Hay won the guessing
prize, and Mrs. T. Kyle, the
mystery prize. Bingo was en-
joyed and a Christmas luncheon
served. Members exchanged
gifts. President Mrs. William
Smale chaired the meeting.

Committee of Hensall United
Church packed and delivered
twenty Christmas packages for
the shut-ins of the church Tiles -
day of last week. Those .helping
were Mrs. Laird Mickle (conven-
er), Mrs. Stanley Mitchell, Mrs.
Ernie Chipchase and Mrs. Pears
Passmore.
Amber Rebekah Lodge, Hen-
sall, Wednesday evening con-
ducted by. Noble Grand Mrs.
Clarence Volland, agreed to
send a donation to the Oddfel-
lows' Home at Barrie. The next
meeting, scheduled for Jan. 1,
has been changed to Jan. 8.
The annual Christmas party
was held and readings were giv-
en by Mrs. Alex McBeath and
Miss - M. Ellis, and piano solos
by Mrs. William Fuss. Members
exchanged gifts and a delicious
Christmas luncheon was served
by the social committee.
Members attended a banquet
at Goderich Thursday night in
honor of the official visit to
Goderich Lodge by the Assem-
bly president, Mrs. M. MacDon-
ald, of Fort William.

The win put the Combines
two points ahead of the Strath-
roy Rockets. Three Combine
players, Dennis Morrissey, Bob
Livermore and Bill Shaddick,
fired two goals each, with Earl
Wagner and Mike Kushman
adding singles. Mike Chalmers
led the losers with a pair, while
Joe Mattingley, Earl Help, Bri-
an Ireland and Mike Blanchard
scored singles.
Allan Rowcliffe, 18 months
old son of Mr. and Mrs. Bill
Rowcliffe, who has been a pa-
tient at the Sick Children's Hos-
pital, Toronto, has returned
home.
Eighteen, members of Hensall
Kinsmen Club canvassed the
village Thursday night and sold
over- 200 packages of peanuts
in their peanut drive.
The Explorers group of Car-
mel Presbyterian Church has:
their initiations Thursday night
in the Sunday School hall, when
Mrs. Ross MacDonald presented
the children with their certifi-
cates and red stars. A few
games were played, after which
the children served lunch to
their parents and friends. Lead-
er of the group is Mrs. Cathie
Hopkins.
4 The Hensall Legion curling
rink, composed of Jack Sim-
mons, Maurice Tudor, John
Skea and Sam Rannie, skip, at-
tended the curling bonspiel at
Kitchener recently, finishing
ninth in the bonspiel, with two
wins plus two, and were pre-
sented with gold cuff links.
Twenty-six rinks participated.

Hold Christmas Party
On Friday afternoon at the
United Church, a Christmas par-
ty was held for all the nursery
and kindergarten .ehildren of
the congregation and their
mothers. The program and re-
freshment time is sponsored by
the Christian Education Com-
mittee of the Church.
Mrs. Harold Currie and Mrs.
Blighton Ferg formed the re-
ception committee. Mrs. Ernie
Chipchase presided for the
program, assisted by Mrs. Wm.
C. Smith. Tommy Youse gave
the welcome; a chorus, "Away
in a Manger," by the kinder-
gartens; a solo by Betty Ann
Beer, "Jingle Bells"; a four-part
recitation, A B & C, Gail Jinks;.
Tracey McKercher,- Betty Ann
Beer and Jamie Caldwell.
Mrs. Blighton Ferg, Baby
Band secretary, was presented
with a potted plant by Betty
Beer on behalf of the nursery.
Mrs. Currie gave courtesy ° re-
marks, and Rev. Currie pro-
nounced the benediction.
Games were played and lunch
served by Mrs. Ross Forrest,
Mrs. Vern Alderdice and their
committee. The children were
presented with favors. Several
carols were sung during the
program.
The Senior WMS of Carmel
Presbyterian Church at their
December meeting made plans
for Christmas boxes for the
shut-ins of the church, which
will be packed December 12 at
Mrs. Ross Soule
Is Hostess At
Stu .% Institute
Mrs. Ross Smale was hostess
for the postponed November
meeting of. the Staffs Woinen's
Institute, held in her home on
Wednesday evening. Miss Vera
Hambly presided and opened
the meeting with Christmas car-
ols, followed by the Mary Stew-
art Collect. She gave some
poems on the motto, "Before
keeping up with the Jonses, find
out where they are going. Eliza-
beth Smale favored with a solo
"Star of the East," followed by
a reading, "The Shepherd Left
Behind," by Mrs. Gerald Agar.
Mrs. Cecil Bowman chose as
her topic a panel discussion on
"Should French Be Taught in
Ontario Public Schools?" Mrs.
Gerald Agar took the affirma-
tive side and Mrs. John Temple-
man and Mrs. Carter Kerslake
took the negative side. The top-
ic was then open for discus-
sion, with most of the members
participating, which proved most
interesting.
Mrs. John Templeman provid-
ed for the business. Mrs. Tom
Laing reported on the box which
was sent to the Institute's adopt-
ed child for Christmas, and the
suggestion was made that those
who didn't contribute would do
so for her birthday in March.
Mrs. Gerald Agar explained
the competition which is on
now in South Perth district for
a design „for the Tweedsmuir
History Book cover. Mrs. Rus-
sell Warden reported on the
London Area convention, and
Mrs. Carter Kerslake and Miss
V.era Hambley reported on the
block printing course and sum-
mary day.
The roll call, "What I plan
to accomplish this winter," was
answered by 17 members. Sec-
retary and Treasurer's reports
were given by Mrs. John Miller.
Collection was taken and the
meeting closed with "God Save
the Queen."
While the committee in
charge served a dainty lunch,
Mrs. Ross Smale displayed her
Christmas decorations and novel

Unit IV Has Meeting
Mrs. James McAllister presid-
ed for the Christmas meeting of
Unit Four of the Hensall UCW,
Thursday afternoon, .which op-
ened with invocation, scripture
readings by Mrs. Hugh McMur-
trie, and prayer by Mrs, Sim
Roobol. Meditation on the birth
of the Babe of Bethlehem was
given by Mrs. George Arm-
strong, stating that only God
could have dreamed this Christ.

R. M. Peck.
The unit agreed to help with
the craft work project for pa-
tients at the Ontario Hospital
at Goderich.
Mrs. McAllister expressed
thanks to members of the unit
who helped with the recent
bazaar.
