Friends Honor
Mr., Mrs. E. Bury
Mr. and Mrs. Eli Bury of Wal-
ton were surprised Tuesday on
the occasion of their twenty-
fifth wedding anniversary, when
friends gathered at their home.
The event was planned by their
daughter and son-in-law, Mr.
and Mrs. James Nash.
During the evening Mr. and
Mrs. Bury were' presented with
a deep freeze. Mr. and Mrs.
Bury, natives of Belgium, have
been residents of the Walton
district for a number of years.
The Elimville Messengers met
Wednesday afternoon at Win-
chelsea school with Mrs. Elson
Lynn and Mrs. Phil Johns as
leaders. Election of officers re-
sulted as follows: president,
Cheryl Hern; first vice-presi-
dent, Barbara Ann Gilfillan; sec-
retary, Michael Elford; press re-
porter, Mary Ellen Prance.
Elimville UCW Meet
The Elimville United Church
Women , held their November
meeting at the home of Rev.
and Mrs. Hugh Wilson, Thames
Road. Mrs. Charles Stephen and
Mrs. Ivan Brock were in charge
of the program with the former
in the chair. The theme of the
meeting was Remembrance.
Mrs. Jackson Woods gave the
Bible study; Mrs. Stephen gave
a talk on Stewardship, and Mrs.
William Routly led in prayer.
Mrs. Gilbert Johns gave the
treasurer's report, and it was
moved to send $50 to the Huron
College furnishings. The Kirk -
ton Horticultural Society pre-
sented Elimville UCW with $25
for the purchase of -shrubs or
flowers to decorate the church
surroundings.

Councillor Cardno, chairman
of the general administration
committee, said that because of
the deputy reeve position, ad-
ditional accommodation would
be required for council meet-
ings. He said the committee had
looked over the situation and it
was proposed to enlarge the
council chamber by including
in it a small office between the
clerk's office and the existing
council chamber. Council ap-
proved the action and also
agreed that further study should
be given the provision of indi-
vidual desks for the members.
It was suggested that such an
arrangement would contribute
to more efficient meetings.
The committee was instruct-
ed to commence work immedi-
ately, since it was necessary that
it be completed before the Janu-
ary meeting.

will leave for Santa Clara, Cali-

son-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Leaton

Irwin's store were Mrs. J. C.

of Hensall. Mrs. Garnet Mous-
seau. drew the winning tickets.
This is an annual project of
the Hensall Kinette Club and
was convened by Mrs. John
Baker.
The Legion Hall, nicely dec-
orated in Christmas motif, was
the setting Sunday afternoon
for the Legion and Legion Aux-
iliary annual Christr(ias party:
Entertainment was provided by
films with Jack Drysdale in
charge of the projector. Santa
was a special -guest and hdnd-
ed out 132 gifts and bags of
candy to the children. Carol
singing was enjoyed and lunch
served. In charge of arrange-
ments were Mrs. Wm. Smale
and Mrs. Gordon Munn.
Mr. and Mrs. Keith Lindsay,
Pamela and Sheila, have taken
up residence in Toronto. Mr.
Lindsay, who was accountant at
the Bank of Montreal, Market
Square, London, for' four years,
has been transferred to a
branch of the bank at Toronto.
Santa will visit Hensall Satur
day afternoon, when the chil-
dren will be treated to free pic-
ture shows, candy and chocolate
milk. The visit is sponsored by
the Hensall businessmen and
Legion Branch 468.

lighting service in Caven
Church, Exeter, on Sunday eve-

Sunday, eight young people
were received into membership
of the church: Larry, Shirley

Profession of faith, and Mrs.

WMS Meets
The Christmas service of wor-
ship in the Glad Tidings was
used for devotions at the De-
cember meeting of the Wo-
men's Missionary Society, which
was held at the home of Mrs.
E. Moore. Several Christmas
carols were sung with Mrs':,
Moore accompanying at the
piano. The roll call was an-
swered with a verse from a
Christmas hymn. Rev. J. C.
Boyne conducted the Bible stu-
dy. The offering was received
and dedicated by Mrs. K. Mc-
Kellar, who also presided for
the meeting. Routine reports
were given by the secretary,
Mrs. T. L. Scott, and the treas-
urer, Mrs. Harper, and the
president, Mrs. •Calder McKaig,
conducted the business period.
A Christmas topic was given
by Mrs. W. Harper, and Mrs.
Dodds led in the Glad Tidings
Prayer. Mrs. Lammond told the
Bible story of "Dorcas." Every-
one gave current events. A col-
lection was taken for the Bes-
sie McMurchy memorial fund.
This was the annual meeting
and after a short address by
the president, the various secre-
taries gave their annual reports.
A slate of officers for 1964 was
presented by the nominating
committee, all officers being re-
elected and were installed by
Mrs. J. C. Boyne. The meeting
closed with prayer by Mrs.
Boyne.
Mrs. Harper and Mrs. Lam -
mond assisted the hostess in
serving a dainty lunch.

and of this amount $650 had
been recovered. There were 45
parking tickets issued, and fines
totalling $498.00 had been as-
sessed in magistrate's court as
a result of charges laid by the
Seaforth department. During
the month, the police car had
been driven 2,256 miles.

Committee chairman Carl
Dalton told council of discus-
sions he had had with Tucker -
smith in connection with main-
tenance of the dump, partictr-
larly during the winter season.
He said he was quite satisfied
that satisfactory arrangements
could be worked out to assist
with keeping the road open.
Finance committee chairman
Angus MacLean said at the mo-
ment the budget was under-
spent by $286.00. In addition
to this, the capital expenditure
budget was underspent by $12,-
869.00. However, by year's end
it was expected that the ac-
counts would be reasonably bal-
anced.
He drew attention to the im-
proved tax arrears situation.
Arrears of taxes prior to. 1963
amounted to $14,742. At the
end of November the arrears of
curren taxes stood at $26,844.
He said that in both cases it

The 8th and 16th group of
Walton United Church met at
the home of Mrs. Ken McDon-
ald on Wednesday evening. Mrs.
Jim,,McDonald opened the meet-
ing with Hymn 51. Scripture
reading was Luke 2:1-12, fol-
lowed by prayer. Barbara Bry-
ans and Karen McDonald sang
a Christmas carol, "The First
Noel." Hymn 53 followed.
Mrs. Don McDonald read a
story on "What Does Christmas
Mean To You?" and "Yes,
There Is a Santa Claus." Hymn 1
50 was sung, followed by the
Lord's Prayer. Minutes were
read and the roll call answered
by 17 ladies. The treasurer's
report was given.
Mrs. Rae Houston conducted
the business. It was decided to
have members visit the Brussels
Nursing Home on Dec. 17, at 2
o'clock, Mrs. W. Turnbull to
,buy fruit for shut-in boxes. It
was moved to have a copper
contest in 1964. The leaders are
Mrs. Jan Van Vliet and Mrs.
George McCall.

held at the home of Mrs. Har-
old Hugill on Tuesday. The
meeting was opened with the
president, Mrs. James Keys, in

of the meeting, with Mrs. Strong
acting as chairman. The motto,
"Peace", was given by Mrs. F.
Boyes of Egmondville, and Mrs.
Orville Storey demonstrated
decorating d Christmas cake.
"A Recipe For Christmas" was
read by Mrs, Hugill, and a solo
by Mrs. E. Cameron was en-
joyed. Mrs. John McLean read
