his Grade 13 at the Brampton
High School. He . received an
average of 80.8 per cent in nine
papers, highest of the appli-
cants for the British Mortgage
award.
The British Mortgage scholar-
ship is open to students in
secondary schools in Perth, Hu-
ron, Grey, Bruce and. Peel coun-
ties who have completed Grade
13 with over 70 per cent in
nine papers, and who are ac-
cepted in a four year honor
course at the Universities of
Toronto, Queens, Western On-
tario or McMaster. The winner
was chosen by a selection com-
mittee comprised of Mr. Gre-
gory of British Mortgage, Judge
Harold D. Lang, Judge of the
County of Perth, and L. C. Web-
ster, President of the Stratford
Shakespearean Festival Founda-
tion of Canada.
"Winning this scholarship
means that I can definitely go
on with my studies here in Can-
ada," Mr. Jordan said. "I be-
lieve that Canada offers by far
the greatest opportunities for
young men entering the field
of business." His- parents and
their two other children emi-
grated to Canada a year ago,
but they returned to Kenya last
July.
Mr. Jordan has had a remark-
able school record, both schol-
astically and in the field of
sports. At Brampton High
School he played senior foot
ball and was also a house pre-
fect and officer in the cadet
corps. At the Duke of York
School in Nairobi he was cap-
tain of the field hockey team.
Keenly interested in current
events and world problems,
Frank Jordan was the spark for
the Brampton High School Cur-
rent Affairs Club and the Unit-
ed Nations Club. As captain of
the I.Q. team he led his school
to a first place standing in Can-
ada on CEL radio. After school
hours he studied three years of
Greek on his own.
During the past summer, Mr.
Jordan worked as a reporter
for the local newspaper in
Brampton. FIis future plans

go into business, specializing in
sales and marketing.
"School in Kenya was very
different from rqy experiences
here in Canada," Mr Jordan
said. He explained that the
school, system was patterned on
the English boarding school,
and that the Duke of York
School where he attended, had
about 500 students, all white.
Mr. Jordan is optimistic about
improving economic conditions
in Kenya, and he also feels
strongly about an integrated so-
ciety. "I believe in complete
integration," he commented,
"though it will take a long
time for this to happen in
Kenya." He feels that the
negro in the Southern States
is much more advanced than
the Kenyan.
In announcing Frank Jordan
as winner of the British Mort-
gage 1963 scholarship, Mr. Gre-
gory also commented on the
outstanding calibre of all other
applicants for' the scholarship.
"It is a pity," Mr. Gregory said,
"that there is not a scholarship
for each of these promising
students."

Blain Dunlop
Dies in West
A recent issue of the Kinis-
tino (Sask.) Post refers to the
passing of a Seaforth native,
Blain Dunlop:
"The community was sadden-
ed on Sunday morning, August
25, with the sudden passing of
'a widely known and much re-
spected pioneer resident of
Crescent Hill district and Kin-
istino, James Blain Dunlop. Mr.
Dunlop who had been keeping
active and looking will, started
feeling poorly late last week
and his condition got progres-
sively worse until death occur-
red early Sunday morning.
"Besides his wife he leaves
two sons, David of Kelowna,
B.C., and Wilson of. Kinistino.
Also five grandchildren and one
great-grandson. The deepest
sympathy of the community
goes out to them.
"The late Blain Dunlop was
born in Seaforth, Ont., in 1890.
He came west with his parents
in 1904 and homesteaded in the
Crescent Hill district. In 1910
he married Maude Dinsmore,
raising two sons. Eighteen years
ago he retired and moved into
town. A quiet, kindly man, he
was' truly a friend to all and
always a real booster for Kin-
istino. He was a trustee of St.
Andrew's United Church, an
honorary member of the Kin-
isitno Branch of the Royal Can-
adian Legion, a member of the
Masonic Lodge and member at
large of the Board of the Sen-
ior Citizens' Housing Corpora-
tion and worked very hard in
interviewing the older people
so that his project might be-
come a reality. He will be miss-
ed.
"Funeral service was held
from St. Andrew's United
Church, Kinistino, on Tuesday
afternoon with Rev. J. W. Heth-
erington officiating. The church
and lower church hall were fill-
ed to capacity with those gath-
ered in final tribute to one of
our most respected pioneers.
"Unto the Hills" and "Peace,
Perfect Peace" were sung. The
choir, under the direction of
Mrs. N. Bernston, sang "How
Great Thou Art." Mrs. Roy Mc-
Donald was at the organ.
"Honorary pallbearers were
Alex F. Mn of Prince Albert,
Tom Huddleston, Lee (Shorty)
Poo, Stuart Lowrie, W. C.
Woods and C. Liddle. Pallbear-
ers were Arsene Soulier, Bill
McCloy, George Freeman, Ray
