all -day 4-H livestock judging in
Mitchell ,Arena on Saturday.
Dr. Dick McDougall and Mr.
Gordon McDougall, British Col-
umbia, were in the community
on Monday visiting friends and
relatives and S.S. No. 3, Hib-
bert School, which they attend-
ed as boys.
WI Meets
Mrs. Lloyd Miller was hos-
tess for the May meeting of the
Staffa Women's Institute held
at her home on Wednesday ev-
ening. Mrs. John Templeman
presided and opened -the meet-
ing with the Institute Ode and
Mary Stewart Collect. The roll
call, "the naughtiest day of my
childhood," was answered by
19 members and two visitors.
Secretary's and treasurer's re-
ports were given by Mrs. John-
ny Miller. Final plans were
made for the district annual
on May 28 at Sebringville, Staf-
fa being in charge of the "In
Memoriam" service." Pennies
for Friendship were handed in.
The bus trip committee for
July reported and plans are
progressing for a trip to Shar-
on. It was deckled to enter-
tain the children on July 3 in
Staffa.
Mrs. Walter O'Brien read a
paper on J. Scriven, the writer
of the hymn, "What a Friend
We Have in Jesus," and Mrs.
Garnet Taylor read a Staffa
news report from a February
1915 paper.' Everyone, contri-
buted to the topic which was
pot -luck, with riddles, readings,
household hints, etc. Mrs. Ce-
cil Bowman gave a report on
the Tweedsmuir history. The
meeting, was closed with "God
Save the Queen," followed by
a baby picture contest and an
exchange of plants, slips and
bulbs.
Little Lassies
The final meeting of Hibbert's
Little Lassies, "The Milky Way,"
was held at the home of Misses
Kaye and Margaret Worden,
with Miss Mary Lou Black,
Home Economist for Perth, as
guest. The meeting opened
with the 4-H Pledge, followed
by the Secretary -treasurer's re-
port. The roll call, "Dessert
and Soup I Made," was answer-
ed by 16 girls. The leaders dis-
cussed the topic, "Baking With
Milk," and pancakes were made
and sampled.
Mrs. Parsons.* conducted a
quiz, and the index for the
girls' recipe books were given.
The girls . were reminded to
have their books to Mrs. Par-
sons by the end of May, and
that Achievement Day is in
Mitchell District High School on
July 10. Mrs. Worden served
ice cream bars. -

BRUSSELS CALF CLUB
The second meeting of the
Brussels 4-H Dairy Calf Club
was held Tuesday on the farm
of Clifford Bray. Eleven mem-
bers answered the roll call.
A class of two-year-old Hol-
stein heifers was judged. Mel
Chamberlain, from the Depart-
ment of Agriculture, explained
various breeding systems and
guides. After the adjournment,
lunch was served by Mrs. Bray.
The next meeting will be
held on July 2, on the farm of
W. Strickler.

St. Mary's Church Guild en-
tertained the WA ladies from
St. Thomas' Church, Seaforth,
at their May meeting, held at

ture and prayer period, and
Mrs. Cleave Coombs, of Sea -
forth, 'sang two lovely solos,
"He" and "Scarlet Ribbons,"
accompanied by Mrs. Joseph

their stay overseas. An invita-

Tractor Club
The first meeting of the new-
ly -formed Seaforth Tractor Club
was held at the SDHS on Tues-
day, with a membership of 15.
The officers elected were:
president, Jim Papple; vice-
president, Mac Stewart; secre-
tary -treasurer, -- George Towns-
end; press representative, Ken
Gemmell, along with club lead-
ers Neil Haugh, of Brucefield,
and Neil McGavin, of Walton.
Slides on tractor safety were
shown by Tom Brown, of Strat-
ford, county engineer for the
Department of Agriculture. The
members were told how to keep
records on the cost of operating
a tractor. -
The next meeting was plan-
ned to be held at the farm of
Neil Haugh in June.

attended morning service at
Colborne United Church, Lon-
don, when a relative of the for-
mer was received into church
membership on profession of
her faith. They also visited
friends and relatives there.
The past week Rev. and Mrs.
J. Ure Stewart visited friends
and relatives in Tillsonburg and
Ingersoll. At Trinity United
Church in the latter place, they
showed their slides to a United
Church Women's meeting and
spoke on their work at the
