Thomas Grieve, of Egmond-

Mr. J. M. Hembly retired on
Tuesday as manager of the Can-
adian Imperial Bank of Com-
merce at Dublin. Mr. and Mrs.
Hembly came to the village
from Auburn four years ago.
John Eisler has been appoint-
ed caretaker of. Seaforth public
school. He succeeds Robt. Joynt
who retired last spring after
serving for 30 years.
The Legion Hall was crowded
Friday night when Branch 156
Royal Canadian Legion was
host to the annual Harvest Fes-
tival Dance. Music was furnish-
ed by Wilbee's orchestra. Dur-
ing the evening tickets were
pulled on the beef draw, with
top prize, 250" pounds of beef,
going to Shirley Dinsmore.

Mac M. McKellar retired on
Saturday after having been ex-

has spent nearly 58 years on

Frank Verberne, aged 9, is
in St. Joseph's Hospital, London,
suffering from second and third
degree burns over his legs and

A farewell party, given for
the Ken Powell's at the John
Lansink home, was a decided

Hon. Paul Martin, Canada's
Minister of External Affairs, at-
tended a coffee party in Gode-
rich Friday afternoon. He

Mrs. Sharon Diehl, who has

gether with the rural mail cour-
iers, presented her with a paint-
ing at a gathering on Saturday.

Mr. and Mrs. Frank Johnston,
McKillop, celebrated their 40th
wedding anniversary and were
honored at a• surprise party at
the home of their son, Mr. Har-
ry Johnston, and Mrs. Johnston.
Robert McKinley, Conserva-
tive candidate, was elected at
the polls on Monday. He re-
ceived 10,573 votes,r while Mait-
land Edgar, Liberal, received
9,279.
Allan Patterson, son of Mr.
and Mrs. John E. Patterson, of
town, has been awarded a
Chrysler of Canada Ltd. schol-
arship, valued at $100. He is
attending Waterloo College.
Joyce Storey was awarded
the Women's Hospital Auxiliary

dren's book written by Alfred
Copland, a former 'Seaforth
resident and now of Ottawa.
He spent nearly 18 years in
the north country among some
of the most primitive people in
Canada.
More than 800 people attend-
ed the opening ceremonies at
Seaforth Community Hospital
Sunday afternoon. Hon. Lawr-
ence T. Pennell cut the ribbon
in the absence of Dr. John B.
Nielson. He was assisted by
Hon. Charles MacNaughton anal
Miss Valeria T. Drope. Rev. D.
0. Fry, of First Church, and
Rev. H. J. Laragh, of St. James'
Church, took part in the cere-
mony.
