went on a bus trip last Mon-
day with the' Kirkton Horticul-
tural Society and visited Brant-
ford and Port Burwell. A lovely
day was spent amongst flowers
at Port Burwell.
Mrs. R. S. Aikens was hos-
tess to the UCW on Wednesday
with a real good crowd present.
Mrs. Glenn Pepper_ had charge
of devotions and also- read a
portion of the book, "The Word
and, the Way.” Business was
conducted by the president,
Mrs. Lawrence Barker. Plans
were made for the upcoming
bazaar. Mrs. Wilfred Annis read
a poem. Lunch was served and
a quilt was quilted during the
afternoon.
Mr. and Mrs. Morley Lannin
and family were dinner guests
of Mr. and Mrs. Ross Marshall,
Kirkton, on Thanksgiving.
We are sorry to report Mrs.
Joe Reed was taken to Strat-
ford Hospital on Friday.. She
has resided in Mitchell with
her brother for the past few
years. Her son, Gordon, is on
the home place at Zion. We wish
Mrs. Reed a speedy recovery'
Mr. and Mrs. Herb Britton,
Joan and Ken spent Thanksgiv-
ing with her sister, Mrs. Nor-
man Stanlake and Mr. Stanlake
and family on Sunday.
Miss Mary E. Graham, Dres-
den, is spending Thanksgiving
week with her aunt, Mrs. Mary
Malcolm, also Mrs. Morley Lan-
nin visited at the same home
Saturday evening.
Mr. and Mrs. Gerard Vande-
walle are the proud parents of
a baby daughter, born in Strat-
ford on Monday.

called on Mrs. Mary Malcolm

CWL Has Meeting
The local council of the Cath-
olic .Women's League' met in
the parish hall, St. Columban,
Tuesday evening. The president,
Mrs. Maurice Melady, presided.
Routine reports were given.
Mrs. Frank Williams and Mrs.
William McMillan are caring
for the altars- during October,
and Mrs. John Shea and Mrs.
Vincent Murray for November.
A report of the Deanery meet-
ing held in Brodhagen was read
by Mrs. Lou O'Reilly and Mrs.
Frank Ryan.
Final plans were made for
the bazaar, Oct. 21, with con-
veners and workers for the
boths being named. A donation
was voted to the Diocesan Edu-
cational Fund, A mystery prize,
donated by Mrs. Frank Ryan,
was won by Mrs. Jack Lane.

Mrs. Brill were called to the

bart• read a very appropriate
address, written and composed
by her mother, Mrs. Edwin
Scherbarth. Mr. Antone Sie-
mon presented the couple with
a gift of money. Mr. Edward
Osborne also presented the
couple with a gift of money
from the ratepayers of School
Section No. 10, Logan, of which
Mrs. Brill is the teacher.
Both Rev. and Mrs. Brill
thanked everyone's kindness
and gifts, and "For They Are
Jolly `Good Fellows" was sung,
followed by• a bountiful lunch,
served by the members of the
church board and their wives.

day evening, Carolyn Diehl,
home from Pembroke for the
weekend; Mr. and Mrs. Donald

Church Women Meet
On Wednesday evening, the
Lutheran Church Women held
their monthly meeting with Mrs.
Harold Rock and Mrs. Edwin
Scherbarth in charge of devo-
tions. Mrs. Ernest Harley, of
Mitchell, was •the guest speak-
er, and her topic was "Faith
That Dares."
Mrs. Oscar Young was in
charge of the business, and Mrs.
Edwin Scherbarth, the secre-
tary, read thank -you cards' and
other correspondence, including
a letter from Rev. Barry Long,
of British Guiana. Mrs. Young
gave a report . of the Catholic
Women's League Deanery, held
at the Brodhagen Community
Hall recently, which Mrs. Oscar
Young and Mrs. Edwin Scher-
barth were guests.
On October 19th a worship'
of LCW is to be held in the
church. Birthdays were report-
ed by Mrs. Elizabeth Queren-
gesser, Mrs; Lew Hicks, Mrs.
