Now that the bowling sche-
dules, and playoffs have been
completed, yours truly would
like to take this,opportunity of
congratulating all the team win-
ners and those who " won indi-
vidual trophies. I would also
like to thank those who assist-
ed me with this column by
handing in their results each
week, I have tried to make the
column as interesting as pos-
sible . with various comments,
and hope I have not offended
anyone through them. If I have,
I extend my apologies now. This
will be my last column, '"but
would like each group to send
or bring " the stories of their
banquets and presentations to
The Huron Expositor, for pub-
lication.
After all these months it is
a fitting climax to a wonderful
bowling season. Thank you!

Cancer
While Seaforth area cancer
campaign is welladvanced,
there are many more gifts
which can be anticipated, ac-
cording to J. R. Spittal, area
campaign chairman.
In emphasizing the need, Mr.
Spittal said Canada is one of
the leading nations in the
totality of its effort • against
cancer, This disease ranks sec-
ond as a cause of death in our
nation. Perhaps nowhere in the
world is our effort in the .fight
against this disease being dup-
licated.
This year there will be an
estimated- 45,000 new eases of
cancer in Canada. Last year
24,500 Canadians died of can-
cer, 365 of whom were under
1'0 years of age.
The Canadian Cancer Society
volunteers are keenly aware of
these sober statistics. They lead
the world in their conscious-
ness of the 'necessity for. regu-
lar health check-ups. This is
the only method that, will per-
mit early diagnosis and save
lives. This Society is..an army
of men and women working to-
gether as volunteers under a
common banner.
Mr. Spittal recalled t h e
founding of the cancer group
in 1938, as a lay organization
with the blessing of the Cana-
dian Medical 'Association, it
helps to educate the public rear
garding the nature of the dis-
ease. It claims today the full
support of the Canadian peo-
ple in its broad, three -pronged
program of education, welfare,
and the support of cancer re-
search.
The fact that the Cancer So-
ciety has consistently met its
rising campaign ojljective for
15 years is evidence of the eon -
cern felt by the people of Can-
ada in this disease and the
faith they have in the society
to fight it.
Supported directly by funds
from the Cancer Society are
200 scientists and technicians
at work on 117 separate pro-
jects in 21 laboratories and uni-
versities across the country.
"Two million dollars must be
raised in Ontario to support the
rapidly growing needs of this
research, plus the broad educa-
tion and welfare service pro-
grams without which there
would be needless death and
suffering. The need for this
money is as real and as urgent
as any need on earth today,"
Mr. Spittal said. -
ANONYMOUS PROPHET
From time to time, Biblical
scholars get into arguments
about the true authorship of
certain of the writings in the
Bible. In the case of the Book
of Malachai in the Old Testa-
ment, however, there" is no ar-
gument whatsoever. The book
is knownto have been written
anonymously. The • name "Mala-
chai" used by the Triter or
Writers, means "my messen-
ger."
