SEAFORTH STITCHETTES
The seventh meeting of the
Seaforth Stitchettes was held at
the home of the president, Miss
Carol Van Loon when Miss
Damude was special guest. The
meeting was opened with the
4-H Pledge and the roll call was
answered by 11 girls. The min-
utes were read by Joanne Van
Miltenburg.
Mrs. G. Elliott discussed un-
derstitching, while Ricki Wil-
lems demonstrated.. Miss Da-
mude discussed Achievement
Day with the members and
then checked books sand blous-
es and helped anyone having

Messengers HaVe Meeting
The Brucefield Messengers
had a good attendance at their
meeting on Sunday. The wor-
ship service on the theme,
"Serving the Lord With Glad-
ness," was conducted • by San-
dra, Janet and Ronnie Graham,
assisted by Brenda Ann Han
greaves at the piano and Jef-
frey Mustard, who helped with
the dedication of the offering.
Janet Graham and Burt Lobb
were asked to represent Mes-
sengers at the Dedication to
Mission service on , April 26th.
The May worship is in charge
of the Mustard family.
A filmstrip, "Chbti Goes To
School," showed how Choti and
his sister went by bullock cart
to a Christian school in a city
near the village. Ways that ed-
ucation is similar to ours and
ways that it differs were shown.
The influence of the Christian
Church was also part of the
filmstrip.
The second chapter of "The
Buffalo and the Bell" was re-
viewed. Kiran and her mother
asked God's forgiveness as Ki-
ran had been negligent in car-
ingfor her baby brother, and
mother realized she had been
spending so much thought and
time on' baby brother that she
hadn't shown Kiran how much
she also loved her. Kiran felt,
after praying, that God h'hd
"pushed her sin over' the West-
ern skyline."
The work of the potter in
India was discussed. The assist-
ance of Mrs. V. Hargreaves was
appreciated.
- At the Messenger party on
Saturday, games were enjoyed.
The Graham sisters danced and
Lyall • Hill sang. Poetry and
singing by Wesley -Willis chil-
dren 'were appreciated. Refresh-
ments were served by Gwen
and Beth Hill and Sandra Gra-
ham. Mrs. William Miirch and
the Clinton children expressed
their appreciation, Miss M. Mc -
Queen's help was appreciated.
On Northern Trip
Mancer Brown,. of Dublin,
and his son spent most of Eas,
ter week at Lake Mattagami,
about 750 miles from- Dublin,
and only 100 miles south of
James Bay, and 115 miles in
the wilderness from Amos;
Quebec.
Leaving Dublin Saturday
morning, they spent Saturday
night at Val -d -Or, Qtiebec, ar-
riving at Lake Mattagami, 160
miles further north, on Sunday.
A mining community pf around
'5,000 people, there are .at pres-
ent four base -metal mines in
production. The temperature
averaged around 28 below zero,
with 10 feet of snow, banked
high on both sides of the high-
way into the town.

John David Steiss lid in
Hamilton General Hospital on
Wednesday, April 2, following
an illness of approximately five
months, aged 37 .years. Born
in Walton, the sqn of the late
Mr. and Mrs. Dan Steiss, he
attended Walton school, and
during later years, has resided
in Welland.
Besides his •wife, he is sur-
vived by three daughters: Pa-
tricia, aged 14; Wendy, 12, and
Debbie, 7. Also surviving are
one brother, Lorne, of London,
and four sister: (Norma) Mrs.
Orval Fuller, St. Catharines;
(Berva) Mrs. Jack Rutledge,
Welland; (Helen) Mrs. Cases
Hudson, Goderich, and (Marion)
Mrs.' Eldin Hulley, Seaforth.
Funeral services were held
Saturday from the Cudney fun-
eral home in Welland.
'MRS. CHARLES MERRILL
Mrs. M. Evelyn Merrill, 47,
of RR 1, Clinton, died Saturday
at Clinton Public Hospital, She
had been in ill health for the
past year. She was the wife of
Charles Merrill, a well-known
Clinton area farmer, who has
also served as organist at St.
Paul's Anglican Church.
Surviving are her husband;
five daughters, Ruth, Toronto;
Margaret, Sandra, Janette and
Mary Lyn, and one s'on, Wil-
liam, all at home; her parents,
Mr. and Mrs, Lorne Wilson,
Brucefield; five sisters, Mrs.
lay (Dorothy) Mason, Windsor;
Mrs. Roy (Hazel) MeGonigle
and Mrs. James • (Ethel) Dev-
ereaux, both of Seaforth; Mrs.
Douglas (Marion) Andrews,
Clinton, and Mrs. Walter (Made-
line) Bain, 161 Birmingham St.,
Stratford; three brothers, W. D.
Wilson, Mac Wilson and Stuart
Wilson, all,. of Brucefield.
The funeral service was held
at 2:30 Monday at the -Ball and
Mutch funeral home, Clinton,
with Rev. Grant Mills, of the
Ontario Street United Church;
officiating, assisted by Rev.
Ronald Wenham of St. Paul's
Anglican Church. Burial was
in Clinton cemetery.

John Coyne passed away sud-
denly •at his home in Hibbert
ToWnihip on Sunday morning.
He was in his s'66th year, and
was the son of Mrs. Alice Coyne
and the late Michael Coyne. He
was- • member of St. Colum -
ban's Roman Catholic Church,
the. Holy Name Society, the
League of the Sacred Heart and
the Knights of Columbus.
• Surviving besides his wife,
the former Margaret Purcell,
and his mother, are one daugh-
'ter, Mrs.' John (Mary Margaret)
O'Leary, of London, and two
grandchildren. Also surviving
are four brothers: George, Dub-
lin; Thomas and Matthew, RR
2, Dublin; Joseph, London; and
four sisters, Mother Mary Alice,
Wallaceburg;- Alecia, RR 2,
Dublin; Mrs. Reg (Florence)
Kahue, Chatham, and Mrs. Wal-
ter (Mary) Kroshi, Toronto. a
brother, Frank Coyne, prede-
ceased him in January of this
year.
The body was at the Burke
funeral home until Wednesday
morning, when removal was
made to St. Columban's Roman
Catholic • Church for Requiem
High Mass at 10 o'clock. Inter-
ment followed in St. Columban
cemetery.
Prayers were offered at the
funeral home on Monday and
Tuesday evenings at 8 o'clock.

fifth wedding anniversary, when

Linda Papple, entertained the

Brantford, Welland, Welburn
and the Seaforth area.
The house was arrayed with
pink and white streamers and
Silver bows and bells. The 60
guests sat down to beautifully
decorated tables. The meal was
served by Mrs. R. M. Scott, Mrs.
E. Kerr and Mrs, Chester, Hen-
derson.
After the dinner, William
Papple, brother of the groom
of 25 years ago, proposed a
toast to the 'continued happis
ness and prosperity of the cou-
ple, and Kenneth Papple re-
plied.
Lloyd Papple, youngest bro-
ther of the groom, 'read an ad-
dress and presented them with
a silver tea service from the
family. Mr. and Mrs. Papple
were also showered with many
other gifts. Mr. and Mrs. Pap-
ple replied and thanked every-
one for their thoughtfulness
and generosity and helping to
make the party such a success.
