Canadian social worker Doris Clark invites you to write
her about your problem. She answers letters of general
interest in this column but can't undertake personal replies.
DEAR DORIS-When the boy
next door showed an interest
in my daughter, his mother
kept inviting his old steady
down. He didn't seem too hap-
py about it and tried to break
off. Then his mother cried and
felt so bad that he made up
with her.
She keeps reminding my
daughter that her son is going
steady; but then she takes pity
on him and lets himtake her
out. At Easter they saw each
other one night and she came
.home looking terrible. She
didn't sleep.
Does this sound silly to you?
It really isn't when it affects
your own household.

DEAR DORIS — Next month
our Ladies' Fellowship has a
program planned on 'Budgets."
i am program chairman but I'm
afraid I haven't a clue as to
how to go about . it. •
We had , spoken of other
things that could be budgeted
besides money, such as time.
As I have a full-time job and a
family, I felt qualified to con-
tribute! I had thought of try-
i.-ng-4e-LLput-on-•a-skit' light
vein' on how to do two things
at once.
Could you think of• anything
else one could learn tQ' bud-
get?
MADAME CHAIRMAN ff
DEAR CHAIRMAN How
about talents? Most of us have
several lying dormant—sourc-
es of broader horizons and good
fun.. They ' may become hob-
bies, recreation, money makers
—or all of them!
Then there's reading time.
We really have to fight for this
one.
I suppose the ideal is to pro-
gram our lives in 'such a way
that we develop fourfold—
physically, mentally, socially
and spiritually. Good time -and -
money budgeting would provide
for all of them.
A Clinton area farmer, 26 -
year -old Lyle Wesley Montgom-
ery, was sentenced by Magi-
strate J. C. Dunlap at Sarnia
Monday to 18 'concurrent jail
'terms. He will serve a one-
year term in reformatory.
Montgomery pleaded. guilty
to 18 charges of theft of farm
machinery, tools, livestock and
corn from farms. in York,
Huron, Kent, Perth, York, Ox-
ford and Middlesex counties.
The thefts 'occurred over a per-
iod of several months.
The stolen machinery, ''stock
and produce was valued at al-
most $6,000. Largest. theft was
machinery and tools valued at
$1,356 from Ronald Ross, of
Colborne Twp., Huron County.
The magistrate sentenced
Montgomery to one year in re-
formatory on 13 charges in
which the value of, stolen art-.
icles exceeded $50;. and . six
months in reformatory on five
charges where the va11Ye was
under, $50.
Montgomery was "arrested last
month by Forest provincial po-
lice on four charges of theft of
corn and farm. 'equipment ` in
Bosanquet and Warwick Town-
ships.
Charges from other counties
SEAFORTH DISTRICT CLUB
The fifth meeting of the Sea -
forth District 4-H Club opened
with "O Canada" and the 441
Pledge. The minutes were read
by Blanche Dalton and the roll
call answered by 10 girls on
the progress made on the chart.
The discussion was on stay -
stitching.
The sixth meeting was held
Thursday at the home of Mrs.
W. L. Whyte. Mary Buchanan
read the minutes, and the dis-
cussion was on "How a blouse
should fit."
DEAR DORIS—I am a sopho-
more university student and an
extreme introvert. I just can't
seem to get out of my shell.
While all my friends are out
having fun, I just stay at home
and watch television alone.
I grew up on a little isolated
island where social life was
lacking and I guess this is part
of my, problem.
DICK
DEAR DICK—A shy person
dies a thousand deaths in try-
ing to break through the shell
of liis own making. Anguish,
isn't it?
Here's a secret. More people
are shy than you think! Secret
Number Two: You are male,
and therefore have the•right to
ask for a date when you want
one. What have you got to
lose?, '
'take ColfC`kg'e! You learn to'
mix by mixing.. I am sending
you a leaflet entitled Don't Be.
Shy!, and a reading list.
(Note to Readers: Above
leaflet and list.maybe had by
