Smith, RR 2 Zurich, marked their 50th wedding 'anniversary at a dinner at the Dominion Hotel. Mr. and Mrs. John Wil. helm, Baden, attendants fifty years ago, attended the event.- • -The couple were married in .New Hamburg by Rev. J. Niemaun. They live on Bayview Farm which they purchased in 1917, along the Bluewater Highway. For many years they operated a peach orchard of 1,800 trees, besides several acres of straw- berries and raspberries, and since 1936 have built and rent- ed cottages on the lake front. The couple have two sons, Gordon and Stanley, both at home. Burrows, of Exeter, KIPPEN Dies in Alberta Mr. Alf Moffatt received word Saturday that his sister, Mrs. Daniel Kilpatrick, formerly Lil- lian Moffatt, passed away at Leedale, Alberta, on February 28th. She is survived by three sons, and one daughter' all of Alber- ta; also two sisters, Mrs. Laving Rathwell, Moose Jaw, Sask., Mrs. Alberta McBeth, of Hen- sall, and two brothers,.. Lawr- ence Moffatt, Regina, Sask., and Alfred Moffatt of Kippen. Funeral service was held Monday from the . United Church in Rimbey, Alberta. Thrifty Kippenettes, public school inspector, was guest speaker, basing his thoughts on the theme, "Fdu- dation," ' Teach children from the beginning to respect others, the, speaker said. He was intro- duced by Mrs. Archie Ethering- ton. Mr. Burrows also contri- buted two ' vocal solos, accom- panied by Ilrs. Ken Attwell. Mrs. William Rowcliffe, who convened the . citizenship • and education program, read a poem , on Education. District Director Mrs. 'Harry Dougall will attend the officers' confer- ence in Guelph May 27th. The group will -cater to the Cana- dian Canners Crop Growers' banquet March 19, and will be host to South Huron District annual, which will be held in Thames Road United Church. A letter from their adopted Korean girl was read by Mrs. William Dougall. Mrs. John Pym gave a ,reading and Mrs. Harry Vallett gave courtesy re- marks. Vivan Cooper, who has been hospitalized two weeks in St. Joseph's Hospital, London, returned home- last Wednesday.• She is wished a speedy recov- ery by her friends and neigh- bors. Combines de- feated Glencoe 9-5 and- took a 3-0 lead in their best -of -seven Shamrock Junior "D", semi-fin- al playoffs' in Hensall' Saturday evening. Bruce Cooper, Dale Turvey and Mike Cushman each scored twice for the winners. Bill Shaddick, Craig -Chapman and Bob Livermore added the others. Andy Moser scored three Glencoe goals, while sin- gles went to Barry Garner and Dan Huston. Combines 7, Glencoe 5 Mike Cushman scored the tie- ing and winning goals to give Hensall-Zurich Combines a 7-5 overtime victory over Glencoe -Pontiacs at Glencoe Friday night. The victory gives the Combines a two -game lead in the best -of -five Shamrock Jun for "D" semi=final. Cushman scored his first goal with two Minutes left in the final period, to give the Com- bines a 5-5 tie. , He then scored the,first goal of the 10 -minute oveime, to put Hensall ahead 6-5. Bill Shaddick scored the other overtime goal. Cushman, Shaddick and_Bruce Cooper led the winners with two goals each, while Bob Livermore got one. Andy Mooser with two and Dick Johnson, Gary McCrae and Bob Pinder h one each, were the Pontiacs ' arksmen. Arena last Fri- day night provided' plenty of action for the ^large crowd width ' assembled for the event. Fans were treated to plenty of thrills and, spills, with never a dull moment throughout the ev- ening's performance, with many young Howes, B.athgates and Kellys making their debut be- fore the delighted audience. Miss Pauline Bell, member of the St. Thomas Skating Crub, was a crowd-pleaser with her exhibition ,of figure skating and was well received. One of the highlights of the evening was the Kinsmen -Le- gion contest with the Legion the winners, with a score of 2-1. Winners in other games were: Bill Smith's Comets vs. Shorty Caldwell's Jets resulted in a win for the Comets 2-0; Bob Lambie's Flyers vs. Bob Reaburin's Stars ended in a 1-1 tie; Zurich 'Peewees. defeated Hensall Peewees 4-2. Proceeds amounted to $150.00 which will be donated to the Hensall Parks Board committee. Committee in charge, Wayne Smith, Bill Clement, Robert Baker, Jr., and Robert Reaburn, would like to, express their thanks to the Legion and Kins- men, Pauline Bell, the three lady referees, Mrs. William Mickle, Mrs. Jack Drysdale and Mrs. Robert Baker, Jr., and all who contributed to the success of the evening. Council Monday called • ten- ders for construction of a bridge over the .branch of the Bayfield River an the fourth concession, 'Estimated cost is $28,600. - The 50 -foot concrete span will replace a 50 -year-old steel and - concrete structure 21/2 miles south and 21/4 miles west of Brucefield. The stream it crosses is also -known as the Little Bayfield River and the Bannockburn River. Council also called tenders for 16,000 yards of gravel and for 100 tons of calcium chlo- ride. A $25 grant to the South Huron Agricultural Society, $25 to the Huron Central Agricul- tural Society and $75 to the Bayfield Agricultural Society were authorized. John Boyne, of Exeter Presbyterian Church, officiat- inThe pallbearers were Arthur Kemp, Russell Miller, Robert 'Norris, Leslie Miller, Cecil Bow- man and James Scott, all of Hibbert Township. Burial was made in Staffa Union Cemetery. Friends and relatives attend- ed from Exeter, Thornflale, Kirkton, London, Staffa, Crom- arty, Seaforth, Mitchell and dis- trict. MRS. JAMES P. FAIRBAIRN Mrs. Isabella Cumming Fair- bairn, who was born in Tucker - smith on the 7th concession on July 7, 1878, passed away on February 2, 1964, at the age of 85. Mrs. Fairbairn left Ontario and went to Sacramento, Cali- fornia, in the year of 1897. She married James P. Fairbairn on January 21, 1902. He -preceded her in death in 1957. She- is 'survived by two so'ns, Edwin A. and Robert L. Fair- bairn, and a daughter, Mrs. Marion Miller, three grandchil- dren, five great-grandchildren, a sister, Mrs. "Janet Grieve of Montebello, California, and a brother, James Cumming, of Sarasota,' Florida.
