ion Hotel, Zurich, in March.
Members brought recipes for
desserts and soups to the meet-
ing for the cook book, project
of this branch, to honor their
30th anniversary in December.

test, and Mrs. Ken .McKay
gave curtesy remarks.

Amber Rebekah Lodge, Hen-
sall, following their regular
meeting Wednesday evening,
entertained the District Deputy
President Mrs, Elva Osboldeston
and members of the lodge from
Goderich and Pride of ' Huron
Lodge, Exeter, on the occasion
of the fifteenth anniversary of
the lodge.
Corsages, were presented the
D,D.P., Mrs. Alvin Pym, Noble
Grand of Exeter Lodge, and
Mrs. Clarence Volland, Noble
Grand of Hensall Lodge, also a
gift to the pianist, Mrs. William
Fuss. -
Entertainment committee, Mrs,
Alex .McBeath, Mrs. Howard
Lemmon, Mrs. Ed. Corbett and
Mrs. George Clifton, conducted
-s—game of -charades- and also
several games of bingo.
A draw for a box of grocer-
ies was won by .Mrs. Stewart
Blackwell, of Hensall. It was
announced that a euchre will be
held after the next meeting.
Refreshments included an anni-
versary cake, cut by the DDP.

annual meeting held Thursday
evening at the Hay Township
Community Centre,$ Zurich,
with 300 people attimding a
turkey banquet.
William Harvey,,. United Co,
operative District manager, of
Chatham, presented tcr the
members the annuala statement
for the fiscal year ending No-
vember 30, 1963, showing total
sales of $727,286 on which $32,-
139 of net savings wps estab-
lished. Of these net, savings,
a 31 per cent dividend was de-
clared on member business,
Two' new directors, Clifford
Pepper, Dashwood, and Mal-
colm Davidson, of Erucefield,
were elected to the board of
directors for three years, re-
placing Lloyd Walper and Alex
McBeath, whose terms expired
after..six years of services. Ed-
gar Rathwell..was returned as
director for another three-year
term.

United Co-operative's Member
Relations Manager, was guest
speaker with his topic relating
to fifty years of progress, com-
memorating co-operatives' 50th
Anniversary,
Mr. and Mrs. Wes MacMil-
-Ian and David, Kiteizener, left
last Thursday for Florida,
where they holiday for a
few weeks. Mrs. Mac,i� illan is
the former Betty Mick[e.
Mr. and Mrs. -Oarl Haslip and
family, Hamilton, were week
end guests with Mr. and Mrs.
Eric Kennedy.

Mr. and Mrs. Ken Richardson
(nee Shirley.. Bender), • a bridal
couple, were honored at are

munity Centre, Zurich, Satur-
day evening, with the Arena
packed for the occasion. The
couple were presented • with a
purse of money, with John Mac-
Gregor reading the presentation
address and presenting the gift.

long resident of Zurich, has
been admitted -as a patient at
Queensway Nursing Home,

THOMAS B. BAIRD PASSES
: Thomas B. Baird, one of the
most active and well thought of
men in the Brucefield area,,
passed away in Clinton Public
Hospital an Thursday, Febru-
ary 20th. He had been in ill
health only the past three
weeks; in fact, he had been in
good health until just before
Christmas.
Born .at Brucefield on March
15, 1884, he was the son of
the late Mr. and Mrs. Thomas

Baird, and had lived all his life
in the area. ,
His mother, Mrs. Agnes J.
Baird, who had come within six
days of reaching her 104th-
birthday,,predeceased him just
three weeks ago, on Friday,
January 24, 1964.
Thomas B. Baird farmed - in.
Stanley • .Township . until 1940,
then moved to the village of
Brucefield, where he conducted
,a very successful , insurance
business -until his death last
week. •
Married in June, 1913, to
Margaret Ann McDermid, Mr.
Baird was predeceased by his
wife, and • daughter Margaret
Jean, in March, 1921.
In, June, 1924, he married
Margaret ,�ikenhead, who along
With one son, Stewart, survives
him; also two grandsons, Orrin
and Gerald, and one grand-
daughter, Dianne, all of Bruce -
field. •
' The funeral service which
was largely attended, was held
Saturday, February 22, from the
Ball and Muteh funeral home,
High Street, Clinton. The ser-
vice was taken by his minister;
Rev. H. Plant, of Brucefield
United Church, and Rev. W.
Maines, Granton, a former min,•
ister, who was a very close
personal friend of the deceas-
ed and his family, Mr. Maines
spoke very touchingly of the
high esteem ih which Mr. Baird -
was held in the community.
Two lodges in which Mr.
Baird was active held services
prior to the" funeral. On Thurs-
day evening, members of Bruce -
field IOOF Lodge No. 210, held
a service, and on Friday eve-
ning, Britannia Lodge AF &
AM No. 170, Seaforth, held a
service, both at the funeral
home. These services were al-
so attended by members of oth-
er area lodges.
Mr. Baird was also a mem-
ber of the Oddfellows Samari-
tan Lodge, London.
He was a long-time member
of Brucefield United Church,

and for many years was audi-
tor of the church books. Mr.
Baird was also active with the
Bible Society in, the area for
many years.
He . was the third generation
of Bairds to be secretary -treas-
urer of Baird's Cemetery in
Stanley Township. He has held
this' position since 1927, and
spent many hours working at
the cemetery to keep it in its
present beautiful condition.
Honorary pallbearers at the
funeral were Rnss Scott, 'Jack'
Davidson and J. W. Crich, of
Britannia Lodge, Seaforth, and
Lindsay. Eyre, Fred Boyce and
Gregor McGregor; of Brucefield
IOOF Lodge.
Active pallbearers were Sel-
don Ross, Walter Baird, Nor-
man Baird, William Caldwell,
Ken McCowan and Mei .. Gra.
ham, all of Brucefield.
Fiowerbearers were. neigh-
bors, Robert Dalrymple, Glen
Swan, Charles Snelling and
Harvey Taylor. Interment was
in Baird's cemetery.
Friends and relatives attend.

Gordon M. McHenry, manager
of residential sales for Ontario
Hydro,, has been appointed man-
ager of Hydro's Western Region,
with headquarters in London.
I. K. Sitzer, Hydro's assistant
general manager for production
and marketing, announced that
the appointment is effective im-
mediately. Mr. McHenry suc-
ceeds R. M. Laurie, who died
February 15.
Mr. McHenry, 46, is an elec-
trical engineer.. H `joined Hy-
dro's system planning depart-
ment in 1948 and. five years lat-
er was appointed consumer serv-
ice'
engineer; in London.. He
moved to Toronto in 1959 when
he was -named manager of resi-
dential sales. His 'technical and
'sales experience also" includes
eight years with Canadian Gen-
eral Electric Co.
As manager of Hydro's West-
ern Region, Mr. McHenry will
direct a staff of approximately
1,000. The Region supplies elec-
tricity to 87 municipal -electri-
cal utilities in Western Ontario
and also serves 80,000- rural -cus-
tomers directly : through 18 ru-
ral offices. The J. Clark Keith
generating station in Windsor'
is also a• regional responsibil-
ity.'
Born ,.in Toronto,. Mr. Mc-
Henry is a graduate of the Uni-
versity• of Toronto. He served
in the Canadian Army during
World War II. An active mem-
ber of the Association of Pro-
fessional Engineers of Ontario,
he is also a member of the
Institute of Electrical and Elec-
tronic Engineers.
Mr. McHenry is married and
has three sons and two daugh-
ters.
