kilowatts during 1963 to meet power demands which rose
approximately 7.5 per cent by December. Coal-fired stations
played a vital 'role in supplementing the sharply reduced
`output of hydro -electric plants as a result of low water levels.
Highlights of the year included completion of ice channel
improvements in the Niagara River (top left); display of Sir

LEGION CORNER
By JACK HOLLAND
Well, comrades ,and friends, a
bit of news and ,a few dates to
keep in mind.
Now that Christmas and New
Year's leaves only a happy mem
ory, and so the next order of
business is to get organized for
the coming weeks ahead.
Our Legion -sponsored hockey
is going great guns with the big:
gest registration' so far, approxi-
mately 155 young' boys, and
Jack Eisler, our new president,
is still holding the reins as
general coach and adviser.
Jack advises me that he and
his staff have 16 hockey teams
going this year; which certainly
entails' a terrific amoiint''of °time
and effort: The Peewees are al-
ready entered in the Western
Ontario Group • and; of course,
will participate in the Young
Canada Hockey Week, held year..
ly in Goderich. Now these `Boys
on the different hockey teams
deserve all..the support that we
can provide—it's great training,
not only physically, but to de-
velop the sense of sportsman-
ship, discipline and fair play.
Our Ladies' Auxiliary—God
bless 'em—are going to donate
a new set of sweaters to the
Peewee's. We of the Legion are
very proud of the auxiliany, and
of all the fine work that MeY
have done for the good and wel-
fare of our Legion Branch. Jack
Eisler also informed me that
he had a couple of stalwarts
helping him on Saturday morn-
ings, namely, Bill Nedil,er and
Jim Southgate. Thanks a lot,
fellows, on behalf of the Branch.
Our Squirts are going to Clin-
ton on January 25 as a team in
a tournament, so let's wish
them luck,
I guess that I'm just a sen-
timelist, but I always have a
thought for the ones who are
not with us any more, but we
who remain have definite re-
sponsibilities and,a duty to per-
form: "At the going. down of
the sun and in the morning we
will remember them;'

ON BROOD
SOW CASE
The ration you feed your broo s
during gestation will help decide he
size, strength and condition 'of the
litter she'll farrow. Don't try to cheat
your brood sow,•it can't be done.
In fact, in an effort to maintain her
own body, a sow will resorb some, of
the tiny embryos. In this way you
might be losing pigs you never even
see because your sow's nutritional re-
quirements are not met. if you don't
feed her properly through the gesta-
tion period you'll get smaller litters.
Watch your sow's weight and condi-
tion carefully. The average sow should -
gain from 100 to 115 pounds during
gestation. Provide plenty of water.
We recommend hand feeding • each
sow 4 to 6 tbs. per day' of Ptfrina-•Sow
Chow Concentrate and grain, mixed
1 to 4, or of Purina Sow Chow Com-
plete. In addition your sow will make
good use of high- quality, leafy hay
if you have""'i't av ilable. Tests at
Purina's Research Farm have shown
that feeding is even more important
than breeding if you want to- farrow
those big, healthy litters. Give me a
call, or drop in. I'd like to tell you
about Purina's Hog Feeding Program
for baby= pigs too!
