The Lucknow Sentinel, 2016-10-26, Page 182 Lucknow Sentinel • Wednesday, October 26, 2016 Shiverton Tour of Terror to feature two nights of unique Halloween scares and fun Troy Patterson Editor Tiverton will be known as 'Shiverton' for a second year, with the haunted house tour set for Oct. 29-30, 2016. Organizer Shelley Roberts said last year's response was huge, with over 350 people taking part in the Tiverton Lions Club `Shiverton Tour of Terror' event. "We want to show that Hal- loween is still alive, regardless of what some people might think," said Roberts. "The interest is out there, so we hope thevent can be a way to increase commu- nity spirit and maybe bring in some new members:' Roberts said the Lions Club in the area does "amaz- ing work" and this year's event has seen the hard work of about six people bring 'Shiverton' to life once more. The event takes place from 7-10 p.m. on Saturday Oct. 29, and 6:30-9:30 p.m. on Sunday Oct. 30, all starting from Tiver- ton's Whitney Crawford Com- munity Centre. And due to the nature of Halloween, the scary event is geared towards those 12 and up, but Roberts said younger kids have taken part, with parents were even more scared than their young ones. "We can't guarantee there won't be any clowns," Roberts laughed. "If we've done our job right, there will be lots of laughs and memories for both the volunteers and patrons." A number of 'secrets' will also be revealed for those attendees, including 'Escape Room's that can be arranged for attendees during the tour. Roberts said interest for the pre -Halloween event has been year-round, with people messaging her, excited to take part. She said it's a lot of work, but last year's result gave her reason to do it again. "Last year, when I hear screams from all four comers of town, at that moment it made it all worth it, she said. Both nights will also feature different actors, with a differ- ent take on the subject matter, so Roberts said it is worth it to take in both tours on Saturday and Sunday. The public will also vote on which location is the best, she said. "It's a lot of work and from all four comers of Tiverton, you'll hear screams all over town Tickets are available at Kwik Way in Tiverton, Main Event in Port Elgin beside Ralph's, Sobeys in Kincardine and White Rose in Walkerton. The event is $5 per person, and all of October leading up to the event Pat's Pizza is offering that $5 back off a large pepperoni pizza if a Shiverton ticket is shown. Roberts said along with the $5 ticket, visitors are also asked to bring a non-perish- able food item with hopes to fill 'coffins' with donations for local food banks. This investigation has yet to determine the identity of this man, which Huron OPP's James Stanley said is estimated to be in his 50's or middle-aged. "His body had obviously been exposed to the ele- ments but was intact," said Stanley via e-mail in response to questions from the Kincardine News and Lucknow Sentinel. "He had been in the water for some time but the exact amount of time is unknown, I understand it is estimated to be a week to a few weeks." The cause of death is still undetermined, Stanley said, and the man is described as 5'9" with a thin to medium build. He said the OPP has also been in contact with the PEP clothing com- pany, whose logo was found on the pants worn by the man. Investigators are hoping to speak with anyone that may have recently found an abandoned vessel or related marine/sporting equipment along the Lake Huron shoreline. Any findings of vessels, including, but not limited to: kayaks, canoes, fishing boats, sailboats, kiteboards, paddleboards, personal watercraft, inflatable rafts, dinghies and marine related items should be reported to police. Any findings over the last month should be reported to police. Please notify the Huron OPP Crime Unit by calling (519) 524-8314 or 1-888-310-1122. The Huron -Kinloss Ice Cream Trail was another big draw, with about 200 entries in 2016, on top of the many others who take part in the photo scavenger hunt. She said they saw large groups of friends and family members visiting from all over Ontario, the United States and Canada's west coast. "Every year it seems to be a good mix of yearly and new participants," she said. "It's become a tradition for some families, who collect the new t -shirts. You can actually see the kids growing up through the pictures each year." She said the nine stops on the tour all appreciate the traf- fic the event brings, and Cronin said they're hoping to tie the event in with Canada's 150th celebrations in 2017. Lucknow also saw an increase in visits to its tourism office, with over 200 visits, as well as about 500 through to use the shower facilities dur- ing Music in the Fields. The Bruce Botancial Food Gardens reportedly also had a good year for self -guided tours "All-in-all, it was a really good year for tourism," she said.
