The artwork of

display at the Blyth
Festival Art Gallery
from June 17 to July
9, 2016.
`Quiet Time'
Exhibition at Blyth
Festival Art Gallery
from June to July
Beginning June 17, the
Blyth Festival Art Gallery
will be presenting the
first of its three profes-
sional -level exhibitions.
Featuring the paint-
ings of Stratford's Wendy
Orr, her formal art edu-
cation began at the sec-
ondary school level in
Woodstock, Ontario.
From 1975 to 1978 she
attended Sheridan Col-
lege of Applied Arts and
Technology, completing
the three-year Illustra-
tion program. Orr spent
several years working as
an illustrator, then
returned to the Univer-
sity of Western Ontario to
study Visual Arts and
became a certified
teacher through the Fac-
ulty of Education. From
1986 to 2012 she taught
visual arts at a secondary
school in Stratford. She
continues to reside in
Stratford where she now
works full time as a visual
artist.
"Six months into the
preparation of my show,
my mother was diag-
nosed with Alzheimer's,"
said Orr. "My focus
became divided and dur-
ing this time, the original
motivation for my work
changed from external to
internal inspiration. This
shift became evident in
the process. Painting
became my form of med-
itation, a quest for peace
and calm in a family
crisis.
As a result, the work in
the show became much
more personal, she said,
and a "record of quiet
moments frozen in time."
The subjects of her
paintings vary from rural
landscapes to forest
scenes. There are birds
and beasts, flowers and
trees. All are painted with
close attention to detail
and a vibrant use of col-
our and light, an homage
to the style of some of her
favorite artists, Vermeer,
Caravaggio, and the
more contemporary
work of Alex Colville,
David Blackwood and
Mary Pratt. It is obvious
that she has a real devo-
tion to her immediate
surroundings.
The public can view
Wendy Orr's exploration
of what "Quiet Time"
means to her in the Bain -
ton Gallery, Blyth Memo-
rial Hall, from June 17 to
July 9.
Her exhibition of
paintings is presented by
the Blyth Festival Art Gal-
lery. It is curated by Lau-
ren Marshall and spon-
sored by Lynda &
Duncan McGregor and
Ron & Bev Walker. The
gallery is located next to
the Blyth Festival box
office and is open during
box office hours. Admis-
sion is free.
