The Lucknow Sentinel, 2016-04-27, Page 7Motorcycle awareness campaign to
mark second year in Huron and Bruce
Brenda Brown and Claude Jones
are two motorcycle riders who have
seen enough of motorcycle acci-
dents .
The Lake Huron Steel Horse Rid-
ers and ABATE Ontario are inviting
the public to the 2nd Annual Motor-
cycle Awareness Campaign on May
21, 2016 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
Communities supporting the
campaign include Kincardine,
Goderich, Bayfield, Owen Sound,
Woodstock and Exeter.
Organizers said the event is a
chance for the public to stop by
and grab some information on
motorcycle safety for both automo-
bile drivers and motorcyclists.
Claude Jones, the promotional
representative for ABATE Ontario
organization, said he's personally
been involved in three motorcycle
crashes and added the the number
of motorcycles fatalities continues
to grow each year.
"Only through my motorcycle rid-
ing experience was I able to minimize
greater bodily damage to myself, but
each of these accidents could easily
have ended in my death," said Jones
via e-mail. "In each of those incidents
the other party involved replied "I
didn't see you"
Through Jones' continued partic-
ipation in a public safety awareness
program, he hopes to bring greater
focus to the motorcycle riders who
share the roadways, in order to
help prevent and reduce the num-
ber of fatalities of fellow riders.
The organization also looks to
better prepare motorcycle riders, to
ensure they make themselves more
visible and safe while riding.
Brenda Brown, president of the
Lake Huron Steel Horse Riders
(LHSHR), said she grew tired of
hearing about so many motorcycle
accidents and discussed it with her
members and other riders.
They decided to do something
about it and have now been very
active in preaching motorcycle
safety tips within their riding club.
The groups will be spreading the
safety message through the sum-
mer at various venues, encourag-
ing the public to stop by and help
them spread the word to 'Look
Twice and Save a Biker's Life'
The LHSHR's take pride on pro-
moting safety in their communities.
To describe the riding club,
Brown summed it up using the ini-
tials of the club as: Loyalty, Happi-
ness, Security, Honour and Respect.
The LHSHR's are now reaching
out to those who share the road
with motorcycles.
