An Ontario West Shore Railway historic photo.
Historical Society to unveil plaque for lakeshore railway
How many of you are aware of
the plans for an electric railway
to run from Goderich north
through Port Albert to
Kincardine.
At the turn of the twentieth
century, the bulk of the rail traf-
fic ran east and west with very
little track running north and
south in the Province.
The plan for a railway was
supported by the Town of
Goderich and would run along
the eastern shore of Lake Huron
from Sarnia to Kincardine. It
initially called The Huron,
Bruce & Grey Electric Railway.
In 1902, John Wilkie Moyes, a
promoter from Toronto
renamed the corporation, The
Ontario West Shore Railway
(O.W.S.R.) and from that point
the story becomes one of
intrigue, deceit and theft.
The last remaining evidence of
the OWSR is at Sheppardton,
and can be seen on the east side
of Sheppardton Line.
The Huron County Historical
Society and a group of commit-
ted volunteers have rebuilt the
culvert bridge and there will be
a plaque unveiling at Shep-
pardton May 4 to commemo-
rate the Ontario West Shore
electric railway. This will bring
to an end the years of work to
make this happen. Mac Camp-
bell spearheaded this project
with the able work of Jim Mar-
tin foreman, Jim Wallace,
Eugene McGee, Art Lazet, and
Lee Cairncross.
There will be a dinner
meeting afterwards at Port
Albert Church on London
Road were David Yates will
put the tale of the OWSR all
into perspective.
The unveiling will be at 5:15
p.m and will require pre -book-
ing for the meal only.
Reserve a seat for dinner with
Mac Campbell 519-524-7935.
Members and guests are wel-
come to join all meetings.

The Lucknow Rumoli Club

rest of the evening was of course
playing Rumoli which included
much fun and laughter.
