Two arrested in Huron County
copper wire theft
Two Huron County locals
have been charged in con-
nection to a recent break,
enter and theft of copper
wire from a Hydro One
high-voltage substation.
At approximately 2:30 a.m.
on March 12, 2016 Huron
County Ontario Provincial
Police (OPP) officers
responded to the substation
located on Hensall Road, east
of Seaforth after being alerted
to an intrusion on the property
by security personnel.
Several officers, including a
canine unit, were in the imme-
diate area from a previous call
thus they were able to quickly
converge upon the scene. Upon
arrival at the substation officers
noticed the perimeter fence had
been breached and property at
the site had been extensively
damaged. A canine track was
activated which resulted in
police locating one of the sus-
pects in a nearbybushlot Police
also located a backpack that
contained stolen copper wire.
The other suspect managed to
elude police however it wasn't
long before police caught up
with him
Through investigative efforts
police were able to identity the
second male suspect as Justin
Field. A warrant for his arrest
was issued and on Wednesday,
April 6, 2016 he was spotted by
police on Main Street in Sea -
forth. He was arrested without
incident and taken into custody.
Upon searching the male offic-
ers located a small quantity of
marihuana on his person.
As a result, Huron OPP has
charged a 25 -year-old Central
Huron man. His charges are
Break, Enter and Theft, Posses-
sion of Property Obtained by
Crime Under $5,000, Posses-
sion of Break-in Instruments,
Mischief and Possession of a
Schedule 1I Substance (Canna-
bis Marihuana). He remains in
custody with a court appear-
ance scheduled for April 11,
2016 at the Ontario Court ofJus-
tice - Goderich.
