HtIron. Cotrnty Road Work
Proceieding on SchcduIe
Wprk is proceeding on sche-
dule and within the estimates
approved, on all county road
projects, County Engineer J. W.
Britnell informed Huron Coun-
ty Council at its session in
Goderich last week. :.
Total amount• spent to Sep-
tember 1, 1967, was $1,027,074.
Property purchase, pole re-
location and pre -engineering,
are all well, underway in pre-
paration for 1968 work, he stat-
ed in reporting for the Road
Committee. Delbert Geiger,
reeve of Hay Township is chair-
man,.
Mr. Britnell said the consult-
ing engineers engaged to carry
out design on the three deveI-
opmenrt road projects, are well
advanced with their work and
the Committee has been advis-
ed by the Minister of Highways
that Development Road 899
(County Road Thtee, Brucefield
to Varna) will be designated for
construction as soon as funds
are available. It is hoped to
start work in the , spring of
1968.
Chairman Geiger fold Coun-
cil that complete minutes of
all Road Committee meetings
are sent to all members, which
should keep members fully • in-
formed at alJ;,. times, He asked
if Were were any questions.
Calvin Krauter, Brussels, ask-
ed about lights on the railway
crossing in Brussels.
Mr. Britnell replied that it
was in the hands of the Board
of Transport Commissioners. He
thought the original estimate of
$17,000 was a little high but the
Board was going to re-estiivate
on a little more economical sys-
tem. A signal systems also Was
being considered near Bruce -
field, Eighty per cent was paid
by the Board, 12Y2 per cent by.
the county and 7% per cent by
the municipality.
He pointed - out that there
were no 'less than .17 grade
crossings in Huron County, but
a system costing less money
would greatly reduce the
amount spent on these signal
systems.
