The 1948 Old Timers Were Confident -
- There is nothing to it the *old timers indicated as they
smiled their confidence and posed for pictures ,before the
Centennial ballgame Saturday night and events proved them
right. They defeated Seaforth Beavers 11 to 7 in the seven

received a great ovation.
Highlight of the start of the
game was the pitching by Mary
Ahara, Huron. County Centen-
nial Queen, of the first ball to
catcher, Bill O'Shea of the Old -
Timers, • which Mayor Kling
pounced uPon and made it
safely to first base.
The Old -Timers won the toss
and took. to the field. Seeing
.these players trot out to their
positions recalled %Old times
when they won the champion-
ship. •
In the first fram the defend-
ing hockey champs, led off with
Ray ,Anstett who got a single.
Bill Teall walked but was out
on 'Jim Dick's hit ball to Doc
Cameron. BabBeuttenmiller
singled to push 'Anstett across
with the first run, of the game.
Bill Muir drove in Dick and
Beuttenmiller 'making the
score four runs for the Hockey
Champions. Tom Dick singled,
Bill McLaughlin walked. Larry
Labute then struck out gar
Baker and Larry Dale flyed-out
to end the top half of the first
inning. •
• The -softball champs came to
bat with Ray Mulford being cal-
led out at first, which was ques-
tionable; Chip Wood struck out;
also Doe Cameron. At the end
of the first- inning the score
read 4-0 for the Hockey Champs:
In the second inning the
hockey champs added two more
runs in their half while the
softball champs came roaring
back with" three to make the
count 6-3 at the end of the
second.
Labute seemed to settle down
in the third inning, striking out.

Rap, Ray Henderson and Jim
Sills. Bob Beuttenmiller pitch-
ed to four batters in this inn-
ing
The hockey hamps went
scoreless in the next, two inn-
ings. In the fourth frame the
'softball champs added three
big runs to tie the score 8-3.

back in the sixth to add a run
but the softball champs were
not to be outdone as they add-
ed, two more in their half. Al-
