Huron County Council dele-
gates to the annual convention
of Ontario Library ,A,ssoeiationn
in Fort William in May; were,
lese than enthusiastic in their
report to County Council at the
June Session in Goderich.--
The delegates were W. Duff
Thompson, Clinton, chairman,
Huron County Library - Board,
,and Frank McFadden, hayfield,
a member of the board,
"It would seem to be that the,
Ontario Library Association
heads 'are professional librar-
ians," Mr. McFadden told coun-
cillors.
He suggested that the'execu-
tive of the ,OLA should prepare
for this convention in advance
so that the delegates wo.uld get
the most"out of it.
"We pay the shot," he aid.
It was just "a Teachers' Fera-
tem to ensure that ' the rate-
-tion under another name,” he payers are adequately protected
averred. 44 and served."
So -strongly did the delegates"The Ontario Library Assoc"
feel about it, that they request- iation should have two divisions
ed and received approval to for working closely together: name-
ly, a Librarian section, and a
ler John Roberts, Education Trustee section."
Minister William G. Davis, Pro- Mr. Thompson pointed out in
vincial Treasurer Charles S. the report that the Ontario Lib-
MacNaughton, the Ontario Lib- rary Association received a pro-
rary Association, and the Reg'- vincial grant in 1967 of $41,-
- . , 000, and was asking for $67,000
in 1968. The report questioned
what OLA is doing to further
provincial library service to
ustify this size of grant.
"The Ontario Library Assoc -
tonal Library Board, I.itehener
Mr. Thompson ,reported:
"Your delegates did not fee
that too much was -accomplished
and there had not been suffic-
ient preparatory Bork done on
the part of the committee."
"Obviously, if the Ontario
Library Association is to play
a part in the creation of a pro-
vincial library system, then tot-
al organization: of 'all libraries
should be considered and corre-
lated into, one moving entity.
It would appear that since pub-
lic fundsare involved in the
creation of a provincial library
system, the Ontario Department
of Education should look close-
ly into some of the dominant
factors that will play a part in
the development of such a sys-
. library service," the report
stated, "seems to be asking in,
objective and organization and
on..how-.to reach -such -4n objee-
letters• and cards sent. Mrs. T:
L, Scott gave a report„ of the
synodical. Bible reading's from
Acts 8- were read in unison:
The Mission Study. which dealt
with mission wont among the
Indians was conducted by Mrs.
Lamond, . Each member gave
current events. Mrs. Harper
closed the meeting with .prayer.

In his report on local activi-
ties of Huron County Library
Board;,chairman Thompson
steted' tat every branch lib-
rary in the County had been
visited. A 'policy had been es.,
tablished of fines and fees for
tenon -residents. An attempt is be--.
ing made to amalgamate all in-
surance policies into one over-
all
verall county. premium.
He said- that- there _ is:':a great
variation, at the present time,
in remuneration paid in the
various libraries, and the Board
would strive fo equalize this
situation. There are still prob-
lems regarding purchase of
books, equipment, etc., but, it is
hoped the local -committees will
"bear with ' the Board" until_
there has been an opportunity
to review.
Mr. Thompson reported that
the $pard had been engaged in
interviewing applicants for the
position of County Librarian. A •
number, of applications had
been received, the majority of
them from the United States.
A report will be made at the
next session of County Council.

Behind the United Church of
Canada lies the great traditions
of the uniting churches each
with a special flavour and point
of emphasis all its own. So, we
remember our threefold heri-
tage ' f 1- a m Presbyterianism,
Methodism and Congregation-
alism which when blended into
one, helped to make the United •
Church the 'sort of church it is
today.
Christians of ' different heri-
tages . are putting.. their heads
together these days as never
before. Some astonishing free
discussions are taking place be-
tween Roman Catholic and the
Protestants on the World Coun-
cil level and in lowly local
settings.
