As the''Vlitchell Junior Hawks
move into their- playoffs, it
might be noted that several
local boys are having excellent
seasons.
Rick p'ortune has appeared in

games and has played steadily
in goal, owning a 3.5 average
and having a shutout to his
credit.
Don Murray, a graduate of the
Seaforth Midgets, has proved
valuable as a penalty killer; be-
sides picking up several key
goals. His rugged style of play
ha added much to the Hawk
attack: •
Joe Dick has recently joined
the strong defense of the Hawks
and has played steadily, giving
the., team the needed depth at

One of the interesting'feat-
ures of this Centennial year
is the amount of genuinely
hard .work put into research
into our native history.. If
you attend any of 'the local
public speaking contests at
the schools you will clime a-
way with a fund of know-
ledge on all phases of Cana-
dian history and geography.
It is really amazing and -'is
particulary easy to absorb be-
cause of so many good speak-
ers. The local Legion is spon-
sorring the finals and judging
by the calibre .of the speakers
it should prove to be very
good. This will be on Tues-
day, March 14th.
Another event with a Cen-
tennial,flavor that had a suc-
cessful night, was the recent
performance by the Figure
Skating Club. They perform-
ed well and _ should. . be con.
gratulated.
A coming event this Thurs.
day evening is the joint cele-
bration of Brotherhood Week
suonsored by the .Knights of
Columbus.
According to chairman,
Brian Flannigan, anyone wis-
hing to enter the Beard Grow,
it ,Contest should do so as
soon as possible. if you don't
wish to enter it why not get
one of the Shaving. Permits.
They are quite a novelty and
no doubt will become an in-
teresting souvenir. •
The Round Dancing group
is planning an evening later
on in the year. They are hop-
ing to- introduce some. other
dances and would be inter-
ested. in hearing from other
groups. Maybe some .of the`
local 'people from Holland,
or Scotland would be inter-
ested in putting on 'a .dance
demonstration. If so, contact
Keith. Sharpe or any of the
members (-of the Round.Danc-
ing group. -

home of Mrs: Elgin Thompson,

meeting with prayer. Hymn 648
was sung with Mrs, Ham at the
piano, Mrs. N. Sillery took. as
her topic "Keeping Lent".
Mrs. John Henderson took the
chair for the business, and an
antique display and a social
will be held in the school room
of the church early in April.
