Broadhead of the L..Torwich-
Insurance Company told the
meeting that implementing the
planwas not necessarily expen-

stores.
The .meeting, arranged by the.
Chamber of Commerce as part
-In, ,,,•
of a re -activated program plan-
ned for the year, discussed a
variety of Matters of concern to
members.
Mr. Broadhead-, who was in-
troduced by Gerald Gingerich
of Zurich, area 'representative
of the Dritarih-haMber of -COW
inerce, said the Norwich Ohm
gained its name as a result of
a concerted movement •which
began • in Norwich, England,
about ten years ago. It. arose
from the -recognition that the
face of ininy• of the old 'time
business areas must be improv-
ed and uplifted. So successful
was the .operation that Cana-
dian centres decided to fellow

Loss At
$35,000
Loss 'which Seaforth Fire
Chief John F. Scott estimated
at $35,000 resulted when fire'
destroyed a large implement
shed on the farm of Glen Mc -
day evening. •
Farm equipment • including a
combine were in the large 90
by 30 shed and were lost in the
blaze.
1VIr. McNichol said the fire ap-
peared to -start in a pig barn,
18 by 50, which was built
against the imprement ihed. He
said he had been in the barn
preparing it for some pigs and
shortly after returning to the
hottse, noticed the fire.
Seaforth firemen made a fast
ten niile run over icy roads and
were able*twprevent the flames
frOtn--Spreddliig. Id: the. 'nearby
house. A large •barn east of the
burning buildings,' .also was
saved.
'Mr. McNichol' said, he plans
to rebuild. The loss is partially
covered by insurance..
Ed. Taylor, chairman of the Ifact the flag had been xePleited
Merchants Committee, said a
questionnaire which had been
distributed to merchants had
met with a ready...resPonse with
07% returned. Decisions re-
garding store hours and promo-
tions such as Victoria Day and
the Santa Claus Parade ::would
be considered at a meeting 'of
the Merchants Committee which
was ,planned in, the immediate
future.
Members agreed an effort
should be made to meet more
frequently and instructed the
executive to arrange general
meetings four times during the
coming year, probably on the
last Tuesday of April, June;
October ,and January..
The plan envisages a wide
range of colors so that the tot-
al effect is outstanding, he.said.
The cost is not expensive and
averages perhaps $4 a foot fron-
tage.
Discussing results which had
flowed from the application of
the plan, the speaker said that
careful checking of results had
shown an increase ,in business
of from 10 to 87%. The average
increasefollowing the work
done on Queen Street in Nia-
gara Falls was 22% he' said. •
Referring to Seaforth-
main street which. he had :ex-
amined prior to 'the meeting,
Mr. Broadhead said that rela-
tively little work would be in-
volved in applying the prind-
pal here.
Emphasis would be,plaCed wi
eliminating the drab appear-
ances 9,f the second -stories
along the street and•he snaest-
"ed this in itself would make an
immense difference in the at-
tractiveness of the shopping
area, He said that it had been
-found that if, 60% of the busi-
ness 'places agreed to stieeed
with the plan, lbe. remainder
would follow.
Appreciation was expressed
to the speaker by R. J. Boussey,
the C of C secretary.

$1,000 mark this week with; a
