Review in a recent issue carried a story of the diamond wedding celebration of Mr. and Mrs. J. Pepper. Mr. Pepper is a broth- er of Mrs. James Malcolm of Hibbert.) On Jan. 15, Mr. and Mrs. J. Pepper celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary, at which 33 relatives and friend's attend- ed a dinner in their honor, held at Malley's Gold Tone Room. Presentations were made- to the honored' couple of two French Provincial chairs, from their family. Walter Ledingham; on behalf of 'the grandchildren, presented them with a transistor radio and Debbie Oliver, on be- half of the great grandchildren, presented them with a bouquet of cut flowers. Mrs. Ida Stinson of Regina, Leslie Burrows of London, Ont., a nephew of the honored couple, and Rev. Ross McMurtry paid, tribute to Mr. and Mrs. Pepper for their contribution to the community. Auburn Pepper, as master of ceremonies, also spoke on behalf of the family. Congratulatory messages were received from Queen Elizabeth, Prime Minister L. B. Pearson, Lieutenant Governor Hanbidge, from friends and relatives d - orated the Christian Education Centre, and the tea table was centred with a mock three -tier- ed anniversary cake, made of flowers and candles. The guest register was attend- ed by granddaughters of the honored couple, while members of Grace United Church UCW catered to the. anniversary tea. James T, Pepper came west to Griswold, Man., in 1903, lat- er coming to Saskatchewan where he took up his homestead 23 miles south of Weyburn in 1904. He •returned to Mitchell, Ont., which was his home at that time and returned to Saskatche- wan in 1905 with his settlers ef- fects. He returned to Ontario and married Maud Stinson of Harriston, Ont., on Jan. 15, 1907. They returned west and lived on the homestead until 1909 when they moved to the Goodwater area. They farmed in that dis- trict until 1945, when they re- tired to Weyburn. Mr. Pepper will be 82 on Feb. 4, and Mrs. Pepper was 82 last October. Mr. Pepper served on the Municipal Council of the R.M. of Lomond for several years, both as reeve and as councillor.
