By JACK HOLLAND
Well, comrades and friends,
here again with a bit of news
and information.
Thursday, May 5th,. will be
the regular executive 'meeting,
and a week later, on May 12,
the regular business meeting
for all members and should be
. uite interesting with reports
brought back from ,the, Domin-
ion convention in Montreal by,
our branch president and the
zone commander.
This week of May 1 to May 8
was a most significant one 21
years ago, as it was during this
time that the world saw the
final collapse of the German war
machine,
On May 1st,. Hamburg radio
announced the death of . Hitler.
'May. 2: Berlin fell to the Rus-
sians after 12 days street fight-
ing. •
May 3: Hamburg, the big
port city, fell to British Forces.
May 4: Gen. Eisenhower an-
nounced that all German Forces
in Holland and Northwest Ger-
many had .surrendered to Gen.
Montgomery, and that a com-
plete. cease fire would go into
effect at 8 a.m. on May 511x, and
the total unconditional Amen-
der of all Continental Europe
would be in force on May 8th.
So, after so long a time it
was all over and our High Com-
mand was busy with the forma-
tion of occupation forces and
the reptration of thousands of
troops back to their native land.
For many thousand it meant
the return home to their fam-
ilies; for many more it would
mean weeks, months or years,
to spend in military hospitals;
