Trophies Are ..resented at
Legion Bowling Banquet
Members of the Seaforth Le-
gion, Branch 156, climaxed an-
other successful season when
the league held their annual
bowling banquet and social Fri-
day evening in the Legion Hall.
The main highlight of the eve-
ning was the presentation of
trophies to the winning teams
and also the individual trophy
winners over the season. There
were approximately 50 present
for the banquet, which was
chaired by Al Nicholson, bowl-
ing president of the league.
D. Sills, president of the Le-
gion, extended congratulations
on a successful season and also
welcomed the members and
guests to the banquet. Chairman
Nicholson introduced the head
table guests, which included Mr.
and Mrs, Gordon Noble, of
Noble Lanes; C. Wood, zone
sports officer, and Mrs. Wood;
D. Sills, president of the Branch
and Mrs. C. Chesney; AI Nichol-
son, bowling president, and Mrs.
Nicholson; Marilyn Lee, secre-
tary; Mel Melanson, Legion
sports officer, and. Mrs. Melan-
son; Don Wood, treasurer, and
Mrs. Wood.
Zone secretary, Jack Eisler,
extended thanks to the Legion
Ladies' Auxiliary for the excel-
lent banquet served.

Go-Gos, captained by Don Wood,

The largest crowd of the sea-
son attended the Legion bingo
Saturday., evening in the Sea -
forth Legion Hall. The. bingos
are sponsored by Branch 156 of
the Royal Canadian Legion, Sea -
forth,' with proceeds going to-
wards Legion welfare work,
Winners of special jackpot
games were: Mrs. Riley, Wing -
ham; Edith Campbell; _Seaforth;
Mrs. Baird, Brucefield; Harvey
Evans, Mitchell, Door prize win-
ners included Mrs. Fred Slav -
in, Clinton, and Viola Johnson,
Mitchell.

erage; Helen Nicholson and Don
Wood, high triple; Anne Wood
and Mel Merriam, high single.
A feature of the presentations
made by sports officer Mel Mel-
anson, was to the Ramblers, the
lowest team in the league, it
being a large crying towel. Mel
Melanson also presented the
captain of this team, Betty
Leonhardt, with a gift. Mem-
bers of the Ramblers were: Bet-
ty Leonhardt, Beryl Nicholson,
Katie Phillips, Al Smale, Al
Hoff and Mel Melanson. A gift
was also presented to the heavy-
weights of the leage, including
A. Smale, Al Hoff and Mel Mel-
anson, of the Ramblers.
The secretary, Marilyn Lee,
was presented with a gift in
appreciation of the excellent
work in the league during the
season, after taking. over from
Ted Southgate. Al Nicholson,
sports officer for the league,
paid high tribute to Mr. South-
gate for his loyalty and faithful
service to the bowling league
during his stay in office. Mr.
Nicholson" "regretted the loss
due to poor health, and thanked
Marilyn for carrying on for the
remainder of the season.
Peter Malcolm and Joyce Hen-
derson were presented with
gifts as consolation prizes.
C. Wood and G. Noble 'spoke
briefly. Mr. and Mrs. Don Wood,
Mr. and Mrs. Don Eaton and
Leo Hagan had perfect attend-
ance.
The election of officers for the
1960-67 season- took place with
the following being elected:
sports officer, Mel Melanson;
bowling president, Don Wood;
secretary, Marilyn Lee; treasuer-
er, Don Eaton.
NEWS OF WEEK IN ZION
A family dinner at the Orange
Hall, Mitchell, Saturday even-
ing, followed by a reception for
relatives, friends and neighbors,
marked the golden anniversary
of Mr. and Mrs. George Pepper.
Mrs. Pepper is the former
Katie Balfour, daughter of the
late Mr. and Mrs. ' John Bal-
four; Hibbert Townirhip, at
whose home she was married
to George Pepper, a son of
Mr. and Mrs. William Pepper,
Zion, on April 26, 1916, by the
Rev. W. E. Darling. They re-
sided on the home farm until
retirement to Mitchell 17 years
ago, after which Mr. Pepper was
employed by the Department
of Highways 'for some years.
They are members of ..Main' St.
United Church, Mitchell.
They have four children: -
Glenn, RR 3, Mitchell; Ross on
the home farm;• Mrs. Lawrence
(Lotis) Barker, RR 3, Mitchell,
and Mrs. George (Aileen) Moore,
RR 1, Staffa, and 12 grandchil-
dren.
Mrs. Pepper has one brother,
Dalton, of Mitchell, and one sis-
ter, Mrs. John (Floss) -Barber,
London. Mr. Pepper has two
brothers; James, of Weyburn,
Sask., and Will, of Vancouver;
two sisters, Mrs. Bert (Nellie)
Yeo, Toronto, and Mrs. James
(Mary) Malcolm, RR 2, Dublin
Their granddaughter, Linda
Moore, looked after the guest
book and another granddaugh-
ter, Mrs. Eric Norris, Montreal,
unwrapped the gifts. Their
grandson, Wayne Pepper, flew
from Regina, Sask., for the oc-
casion. also Mrs. Pepper's eous-
ins, Mr. and Mrs. Vernon Keith,
Detroit.
Rev. Sloan proposed the toast
to the couple, and Wayne Pep-
per, Regina, responded.

Melvin Good was elected
president of the Huron County
Road Superintendents' Associa-
tion at its .annual meeting in
Goderich Township Hall at
Holmesville.
Other officers are: Past presi-
dent, William Taylor; vice-presi-
dent, Harvey Culbert; secretary -
treasurer, Wiliam Routly and
representative to the Ontario
Road Superintendents' Associa-
tion, Roy Tyndall.
Other business included dis-
cussion of a by-law covering
construction • of entrance cul-
verts, led by J. W. Britnell,
county engineer. Ralph Bette-
ridge, of St. Marys, discussed
weed and brush control by
spraying.
Several new members from
various villages and two town-
ships in the county were pres-
ent, as well as Ken Wilmot,
from the Department of High-
ways.
Grant Stirling, Reeve of Gode-
rich Township, and Harold Rob-
inson, Deputy -Reeve of Howick
Township, spoke briefly.
