Mr: and Mrs. Earl L. Bernard
of Morris Township celebrated
their fiftieth wedding anniver-
sary on September "24th, 1968.
The following Saturday eve-
ning Mr. Ivan Campbell drove
the happy couple in his surrey
and team of ponies to St. John's
Anglican Church, were they
were treated to a turkey din-
ner by the family.
Mrs. Bernard was the former
Annie Alcock and they have
farmed all their married life
on the farm where they now re-
side.
They have a family of five,
two daughters, (Janie) Mrs. John
McEwing, (Mary) Mrs. Harold
East, 1).0th of liullett TOVIMSIIIP;
three sons, Thomas of i'Vforris
Township,. Qeorg0 of Clinton
and Howard of lirusSelS, 'They
have 22 grandchillren and sev-
en great-grandchildren.
Mrs. Mary Ovingtont who was
bridesmaid fifty years ago, and
Mr, Wm. J. McCutcheon, who
was best man, were present for
the occasion. Richard Akock,
brother of Mrs. Bernard, who
was present fiftY year ago, also
attended the dinner.
Guests were present from
Waterford, Wroxeter,-Seaforth,
Clinton, Londesboro, Blyth,,Mit-
chell, Kitchener, Winthrop and
Brussels.

$25,000 Loss hi
Century Barn Fire
A tiny, piece of hot metal
hurled from a chopping mill in-
to a hay mow is believed res-
ponsible for starting a $25,000
fire.
The fire levelled a huge 100 -
year -old barn, a drive shed and
new milk house on the Base
Line Road farm of Larry John-
ston, 11/2 miles south of Auburn
at noon Saturday.
Mr. Johnston's hay and grain
crop were destroyed but neigh-
bors and friends helped save
all his machinery, including the
Gasoline tanks and the brick
, farm house were threatened by
flames at one point but the
Blyth and Clinton- fire brigades
drawing water from a, creek a
half -mile away, were able to
save them.
Mr. Johnston said he thought
the metal might have been part
of a nail that was in the grain
being chopped. He said he found

St. James Church, Seaforth, with
Reverend Laragh officiating.. -
• -The bride given in marriage
by her father wore a street len-
gth dress of white Satin covered
with white lace. The veil was
illusion tulle held by a white
satin crown. Deep pink roses
and lily of the valley comprised
the brides bouquet. Mrs. Diane
Mero was maid of honor. Mr.
Laurie McKellar was best man
and Mr. Harry Mem was usher.
The couple will reside in Sea -
forth. ,

Cavan UCW held the Fall
Thankoffering in the church on
Wednesday, . having visitors
from the neighboring churches
of Northside, First Presbyterian,
St: Thomas' Anglican of Sea -
forth, 'Duff's of Walton and Lon-
desboro.
' The opening hymn was 577,
"Come, Ye Thankful People,
Come", and Mrs. Robert Dalton
welcomed the guests.
Mrs. George Case read the
scripture lesson, 1st Corinthians,
13th chapter, offered prayer and
read a poem, "Every Day is
Thanksgiving".
Hyuan 168, "Jesus, With Thy
Church " Abide" was 'sung. Mrs.
Robert Campbell and Mrs. Stan-
ley Hillen sang two duets, "Un-
der His Wings" and "Have
Thine Own Way, Lord", accom-
panied by Mrs. Gilbert Smith.
Mrs. Dalton introduced Mrs.
Op/al Struthers of Mitchell who
sposke on "Thanksgiving, the
law of love". Mrs. Jim Axtmann
thanked the speaker and pre-
sented her with a gift.

ing with the benediction.
