drains was passed at the Tqwn-
ship of East Wawanosh council
meeting, May•7.
The tile drain loan applica-

by the Ontario Treasury Depart-
ment.
A tender was opened on the
Charter Drain and 'council ac-
cepted the tender of Howatt
Bros.'

The interest rate on 'tax ar-
rears for the Township of, Us -
borne increased to the rate of
eight percent per annum of
two-thirds of one percent per
month. Council approved the
move at its May meeting.
The new interest rate will be
retroactive to January 1, 1968.
In another move, council Pas-
sed the motion closing the road
at concession 8-9 and highway
23, subject to approval of the
Department of Highways and
confirmation by •the County of
Huron.
Council accepted three tend-
ers. The tender of Hensall Mot-
or Sales to supply a • Mercury
pick-up truck according to spec-
ifications for $2,100 with trade-
in, was approved and the tend-
er of Lee Jennison, Grand Bend,
to supply and apply- approxi-
mately 80 tons of calcium Chlor-
• ide at $50.55 per flake ton or
equivalent was approved. Both
are subject to the approval of
the Department if Highways.
The tender of William Camp-
-bell, Seaforth, to construct the
Willis Drain for $1,295, was ac-
cepted.
Council also agreed to accept
$2,700 in lieu of 2,000 • cu. yds.
of gravel at f1.35 per- cu. yd.
in settlement of claim for re-
habilitation of roads after the
rebuilding of No. 4, Highway in
1967. '
A letter was received from the
London, Humane Society which
advised that any Usbor.ne dogs
picked up would' be taken to
the London headMitirters.
The treasurer reported the re-
ceipt ,of the-balance...of the 1967
road subsidy. . of $17,297.86,

Correspondence was received
regarding the basic shelter

tario and the Huron County Pub-
lic Library Board regarding the
Kirkton Library rental. These
are under review.

trar since SeDtember, 1955. The
announcement was made by At-
torney General A. A. Wishart.
Mr. Beaver was raised in Ex-
eter, and is a descendant of a
pioneer family of Stephen Town-
ship. He is 52 years of age, mar-
ried and has two sons, and will
be moving to Goderich.
Mr. Beaver served overseas
from 1942 to 1946 and has been
the assistant manager of Jones
MacNaughton Seeds Ltd., a seed
firm in Exeter for eight years
and a member of the first Coun-
cil of the Town of Exeter. He
also served on the Exeter Rec-
reational Board.
Mr. Beaver is Past President
of the Local Branch of the Can-
adian Legion, Past Secretary --
Treasurer of the Exeter Lions
Club, Past Master of the Leban-
on Lodge A.F. & A.M., a mem-
ber of the Shriners Mocha Tem-
ple in London, and a member
of James Street 'United Church.
He has been a Justice of the
Peace since 1957.
