Home and
(Continued from Page 1)
parents attending meeting was
representative enough to make it
worthwhile in continuing the
organization. '
• Parents and teachers attend-
ing unanimously endorsed con-
tinuing the Home and School
Association in Seaforth but
recommended that only two
meetings and perhaps a third
be held each year.
It was the general feeling
that the first meeting served an
important service by acquaint-
ing the teachers with the par-
ents.
Too, it was felt that Home and
School is an open door for any
parent to see the school, other-
wise many parents would never
have occasion to visit inside the
schooL
Home and School meetings
provide an opportunity for the
school to acquaint parents with
happenings at the school, fu-
ture activities .planned for the
students and changes in curri-
culum.
Another suggestion made was
that interested Home and School
members might be called on to
volunteer as teacher's aids to
assist with students having dif-
ficulties.-- do drill or review
work with small groups.
It was agreed that most par-
ents make mistakes with their
children and have to find new -
ways ' of handling situations.
One of the most effective means
is through a parents group,
Children are the best organized
non-union group in the world;
so parents in groups may antici-
pate problems and present a
united front in setting standards
of behaviour. This gives child-
ren and parents a common road
to walk together.
Home and School meinbers
recommended compulsory par-
ent -teacher interviews once, and
preferrably twice a year by ap-
pciintinent. Not to increase the
work load of the teachers un-
fairly it was felt that many of
these appointments should be
made during the teacher's work-
ing day with a substitute teach-
er supplying in the classroon:i.
This might prove mbre costly
but it was felt that the worth
to the student of such interviews
between teacher and, parent
would be invaluable.
Approval was given •to pre-
sent each graduate with a class
picture.
Mrs. George Miller and Mrs.
William Bennett conducted a
successful penny sale.
Question of the month was
answered by Mrs. Donald Bode.
Mrs. 'Elva Ellis' class won the
attendance banner.
The installation of offieers
will take place at the May 21st
meeting when it is hoped to
have a member of the school
board address the meeting.
