The assessment 11 for the Town of Wingham for 1907 as handed to Town Clerk Ferguson o Monday, Assessor Dolma a has take a great dealal of pains with his work and the roll is a model of neatness. The ]lowing partionlars from the rolls for 906 and 1907 will be of interest: - 1906 1907 Total assessment 1 688,080 762,990 Busineasassesemen 83,835 87.655 Value of lands 128,150 155,835 Value of buildings t 467,195 506,570 Income 3,900 3,400 From the forgot • g it will be seen that there is an increa a in the total assess- ment of $64,910 ov:r last year. This in- crease has been •• , de general all over the town. Prope ty has increased in value;and it is b natural that the as- sessment Should •e raised. If the in- creased assessme t will make a reduc- tion in the tax r • te, there will not be very much differ toe in the amount of taxes to be paid b the ratepayers. Number of dogs is 105, the numb- er, last year being 102. The population last year was 2207 and this year it is giv- en at 2284. We d not believe the figur- es in regard to the,• opnlation are Correct and we do not in yway find fault with Assessor Duimage nor do we believe he is to blamo in this matter. We are of the opinion that t : population of Wing• ham is nearer2,501 than it le to 2,300. In looking over the ell, in just two in. stances, we faun ; were seven people had not been Conn ed in the population column, The ho :eholders, not the as- sessor, may be to arae for this shortage.
