good' year for a let of kids. in
Seaforth, Being the Inter-
national; Yeae•of the Child
there were special events
planned just for us. To
remember some of the
events over the year we're
going to step into a small
time machine and go back• -as
far as January of 1979
The new year brought a lot
of changes into Seaforth,
1andie Smith was Seaforth's.
New Year's Baby in 1979.
Since, January, is: a cold and
stormy month!, there were
alot of mornings thatlhe mao
on the radio would break the
heart breaking news that SPS
and SDHS. would be closed.
because of weather reason!,
There was some great
news though in January as
Lloyd Eisler Jr. and Lorri
Baler won the championship
• at. Sarnia.. Mr, Bali the
.geography teacher at SDI -IS
went to Australia for one
year with his family and Mr.
Jones, a teacher fiorn
Austria came to Seaforth for
a year. He taugl t history and.
• geography for the year and
found his • students • quite
similar to animals in;
Australia so he felt quite at
home. The :Optimist Winter
Carnival • brought a poker
.4.411y and a ski rally. Lynn
Henderson was the SDHS
Snow Queen in 1979.
• As February approached,
so did the Walton Poker
Rally, •It •was just • as
successful as the one in.
Seaforth. The Varna Winter
Carnival was on. February 15.
The students at SDHS had a
good laugh over the Harlem
Diplomats 'es the Diplomats
had a challenging game of
basketball with; . the SDHS
teachers.
March brought a lot of
winners and champions. The
Seaforth Novice team ;cele-
.brated - as they won a
,tournament here in, town.
The'SDIIS girls tried tea*
• hard at WOSSA •playing,
v011eybill. • The .Huron
Centennial School had what
they called Fun Day in March

won the consolatiOn Prize at
WOSSA, March. pour
West Branch kids eame to
Seaforth in an exchange with,
four Segforth kids. The
March break was great as
some Spent -their vacation
bathing on, the beaches in
Florida and the Bahamas
while othersspent their
vacation shovelling that cold
white stuff.

made. The Optimists' annual
canoe race was a success
again. Lloyd and Lori brought

Germany. The Seaforth
Atoms were proud to win the
WOAA tournament. There
were a couple more storm
warnings but the worst of the
snowy months- was past. On
April 9, the Seaforth Figure
Skating Club had their an-
nual Achievement Night. At
SPS in April the t'Accademy
perfOrmance" of Oliver
Twist was well under way.

In, May the Optimists held
a very successful fishing
derby. The only thing that
most people caught was a
• doozy of a cold but we all had
a good time trying.' The
Martin and Downs Circus
arrived in town on May 29.
The students at SPS had a
special "Politics Day". The
• students invited the mayor,
MPP Jack Riddell and MP
Bob McKinley and other men
and women important to our
community. ' Soccer and
. baseball started again as the
weather smartened up a little
