A candidate who has declared'. he's
seeking the nomination is 37 -year old Bruce
Shaw of Exeter, principal of Seaforth District

meeting Jan. 3, ,Mr, Craig was the Liberal
candidate in the May 22 election this=p'ear,
but lost to incumbent Bob McKinley, the
Progressive Conservative MP .who has
represented` the riding in Ottawa since 1965.
Mr. McKinley announced last week that
he won't seek re-election in the February
general election.
Graeme Craig, a Walton area farmer and
technician with United Breeders, said he
thinks the first challenge facing candidates
in the winter general election will be "the
weather." He said the upcoming race seems
to be an election that few people, wanted.
The candidate said`. "it was, a' suprise". o
learn that Mr. McKiniey wouldn't be
running again, .
Mr, Craig said with the possibility of
storms' and bad weather in the winter
campaign, it may be difficult for , parties to
reach the electorate. He said if the weather
is bad, then the Liberal Party will have to run
"more a media -type campaign rather than
a door-to-door campaign as they ran` in the
May 22 election,
The issue which: is of major concern to
area voters is high interest rates, Mr. Craig
believes, since these affect both the small
businessman and the farmer.
Mr. Craig said he hasn't heard of anyone
else running for the Liberal nomination, but
added the race is open to: anypne The:'
