'Bored?` 'Looking for .some.
thing exciting to, dol You
may not realize it, but right
now is the perfect 'time to
take up ,a new profession.
The conditions are fantastic
this week for the Ontario
Motor League's, favourite
activity,; .BABY driving!
Being a professihnal, car
rally driver is very difficult,
and requires a great deal "of'
practice, And where better to
practice than the slippery,;
unplowed; streets; of Seaford'
after an average early winter
snowfall like we have been
experiencing this past week?
Every driver gets his start
somewhere. Why not take up,
the sport now?' •
Much of the skill, required
must be attained through
trial and error self training,

here acre. a few .suggestions,
and pointers,
Step one. clean the fresh,
snow off only a small section
of the front windshield. By
no means should you, .clear

he's going or what he will.
hit, It makes for a crowd --
pleasing, dramatic effect
when your car barely misses;
that on -coming traffic, or
stops inches from the tree
that materialized from no-
where.
Step two., Tire spining
What self-respecting rally
person cannot spin his tires
in at least 15 different ways?
The trick to this feat is the
foot. Like the good buddies
on the C.B. radio say, put: the
....
pedal to the metal. You; won't
get far, but, your rear tires
should be breaking the speed
limit. Let's see $nu3key try to
fine you for speeding for that
one..
Step three. After `master -

that it stops at a. 90 degree.
angle to the road. Then on to
the daring 180 doughnut and
finally, the most difficult of
them all,; the full circle'.
spin -out. It's best to practice
in . an. open parking lot,
preferably empty, before
testing your newly dis-
covered: talent on the roads..,
Four-wheel drive vehicles
can be as much fun ' as
regular cars, but if yoti get

out. After all, row truck
drivers have to make a living
too. The best vehicles by afar
for this sport are the littlest
ones., You know► the little 200
pound.: variety that have be--
comepopular in the last few
years.. The, ones with tires,
about the size of an .over
grows silver dollar... These'
ears are good sellers not
because they are cheaper or
better ou gas. It's because:
the new owners want, to test
their abilities as rally,, demon,
Of course this sport; is: for
everyone. But there are two
distinct groups which seem
to excel at it. `The first is the
new driver, anxiously,
wanting to see how much his
parents' car will actually do
before he wraps it around the
most convenient fire
hydrant. However this
always leaves open the
possibility, of danger from a
pack of irrate, militant dogs,
who feel that such actions by
humans is only to deprive
the ; of their one pleasure
in life.
The second leading group
in this sport Is, the, hot rode
grannies. These are the.
Janet Githrles of the senior
set who want to prove to the
.younger drivers that they too
can total off a car with little
or no personal, damage. And'.'
these oldtimers have plenty
of experience, to rely on.
So the ne=t time you go
down the street and see a six
foot wide car cutting swirly
foot path. down . one of -
Seaforth's .backstreets,. ' just.
remember that the driver is
in, trgtning for rally event in
the 1985. Winter Dimples in.
