Darlene Hayter returned
last Thursday
three-week tour of England,

Stephenson family was held
on June 10th, 1.902, at the
home of John Stephenson on
the Goshen line. He was the
man who organized it and he
was the great-grandfather of '
the president of this year's
picnic, Ralph Stephensan of
Varna. Eigftty.seven mem-
bers of the family attended
the original picnic. After two
years, the picnic alternated
between the United States
and Canada as there were

"many American relatives.
After several years the re-
unions ceased:
In 1929, the annual re-
unions were started again by
William R. Stephenson,
grandson of the original
reganizer. The picnic was
held on his farm on the Parr
Line. near ' Varna with 116

present. Assisting flm with --
the arrangements was Mark
Drysdale, a cousin. The -
following year the picnic was
again held in the implement
shed on the farm which the
family worked very hard to
convert to a picnic pavilion.
After this it was held at
Jowetts Grove,- Hayfield, •
where it took place annually
for several years, and was•
then held at Harbour Park,
Goderich, and in recent years
at Seaforth Lion's Club Park.
This year it was held at.
Huron Centennial School
with 154 members of the
family present.
The only members attend-
ing who were also present in
1902 were Mrs. Lee McCon-
nell (Anna Stephenson) and
Harry Metcalf.
The reunion has always
brought members of the •
family, from great distances.
This year two came from
Pilot Mound, Manitoba—
Mrs. Frank Havarti (Mabel
Armstrong) and Mrs. Jack
Manning '(Helen Cockerline)
The youngest member pre-
sent was Clayton Boussey, 7
weeks old, son of Mr. and
Mrs, Bill Boussey (JoYce
Taylor), London, Ont. The
oldest member present was
83 -year-old Harry Metcalf

the most grandchildren was
Mrs. Eileen Consitt (Eileen
Turner) of Zurich with 15.
After dinner several selec-
tions of music were played
•on the accordian by Miss
Diane Verlinde, a guest.
Readings were given by Mrs,
Bill. Dowson and Mrs. Luther
Sanders (Elva Stephenson).
A musical selection was
played by Mr. George Dow -
son, violin, and Mr. Floyd
Armstrong, guitar.
Members of the family
who were present 50 years
ago shared memories with
the younger members of the
fariiily. An account of the
picnic held in 1902 was read
by 'Ivan. Stephenson, Ms.
issauga, great-grandson. of
John Stephenson. There was
a great display of photos and
family trees from the various
branches of the family.
This fiftieth anniversary
celebration was considered a
real success. .

Carl Payne, has returned to
her home, While here she
crossed on the: ,Chi Chee,
mutt ferry at Tobermory,
visited the Agawa Canyon
and fvfoosonee and Algnn-
quin Park.
