The non -nibblers of Seaforth marked their 10th anniversary Monday at a' meeting held at Seaforth District High School. The club was. starred! on June 23, 1969 by. Br. Rodger Whit man, Joanne Sholdice, Katinka Dorrance. and Carolyn Thompson. -AVOW 20 to weekly meetings ' in the Seaforth Public Library; In 1978 there were. 43 meetings held and members lost a total of 9031/: pounds, Johanna Brink of R.R,N1, Bornholm over a four-year period lost. 981/ pounds. Another big loser. (?) is Vera Hlllebrecht ofR.R,5, Mitchell who lost 55 pounds during the last year, Mrs. Brink and her husband have five daughters and two sons, all of whom are proud of their mother for her efforts in attaining her goal . in: losing weight• She said her family all helped her, Mrs, Brink said she was successful in losing so much weight because of the diet' she 25 attend job hunting students "Everything is worth: a try" says Patty • Muegge of Seaforth referring to the hunt for a summer job. Patty, like Francine Visser of R. R,' #5, Seaforth, and many other Huron County students hadno job for the holiday months. Both girls, year four students from. Seaforth District High School, do still •have a chance fpr summer employment because they have registered their names at the manpower centre in•Goderich. Patty has received information about one job from the centre, and Francine about_: two, but neither girl has had any material results. studentsThe. are hopeful howeverr because, as Francine . says, ""they (the centre) really try to 'help." Placements of students . in summer em plo ent are up21%over those•at the. P Ym same time last year at the. Canada, Employment Centre for Students (CECS) which has its head office in Goderic'h. All types of students register at the .. centre where their names and resumes are kept on, file until' an employer contacts the CECS when the best student is chosen for the job available., This year, students from. grade six to those working on their masters degree at University are registered, As of the ond. of May this year, 980skilled and unskilled liad registered at either the CECS in Goderich, or the office in Exeter. Many of those have a Vast amount of work experience whether •at be from past summer jobs, or from working at home, according to Susand Freeman, manager of the CECS who syorks out of Goderich. The Goderich and Exeter offices handle • tm employment. for all of Huron county except Grey, Turnberry and Howick townships.. Up to June .22, 363 students have been placed through these 4 -flees this year, Casual placements, whit•h are lobs lasting five days or less, take, up 92 of those_ placements, Haying, stone picking, paint- ing and cutting grass are ,common casual placements.: These numbers do not indicate` the numberstudents who have summer jobs in • the, area as many obtain work v ithouto ratio through the centre: Pe g Also, the number of students registered at the centre does not reflect the numberber of 'area. unemployed students in the'. . Many students who register at the centre are willing to do any kind of work --even wash windows, clean basements, or weed willing . gardens, and are w g to start work immediately. Some who register have skills in such fields•' as auto :mechanics, wood- working, .accounting, typing and lifeguard Ing. Also employing youth this summer is the Young, Canada Works program, 'sponsored. by the Federal Government which _ has employed 31 students in Huron County, and "`Experience '79 which is sponsored by the :Provincial Government. Working through the ministry of culture and. recreation, Experience '79 has. employed 17 students in positions like the research one held by Rebecca Garrett at. the Van. Egniorid home.
