sider that post season play
Was indeed underway,
With the odd exception,
1,1-1.Lt tradition dictates that
when the playoffs get under-
• way scores are usually low
and the contests close.
The Wings 5.0 white -wash:
of the Stars; the Kings 8-2
thrashing of the Blues and:
the Flyers 9-3 rout over the
Hawks all last Sunday barely
resembled classic battles of
the past.
WINGS 5, STARS 0
Despite an apparently easy
looking 5-Q shutout win over
the Stars, the Wings triumph
was not a certainty until, very'
late in.,the match. •
The Red team was nursing,
a 2-0 lead with' S minuteS left
when a pair of goals by Jim
McLeod and a single score by
Bruce Rathwell insured 'a,
victory.
For a good part of the
game the Stars. had Centrol of
the 'play but could; not
penetrate a 'solid Wing de-
fence and the goaltending of.
Gary. Montgomery:
The match was scrambly
many times with both clubs
playing between the blue
lines on numerous occas-
sions. The Stars outshot the
Wings 16-14 on the game to
strongly indicate a dose
checking affair.

KINGS 8 A ES 21
Like the Hawks, wins by,
the Kings this; season have
;been as rare as low cost fuel.;'
Last Sunday. evening,. how-
ever, the Royal club won
when it. countedthe most by
pounding the Blues 8-2
during the nights middle
;match.
The most amazing aspect
Of the game was the fact that
the winners ,only had 7
players. That is a situation
that has proven fatal over the
post season,
Clive Buist helped reverse
the' tradition by scoring 4
goals. Dale Kennedy netted
a pair while Larry Broome
and Brian Nigh added single
Sid Wocks and Ben. Akker
tallied for the Blues.
The Kings completely
dominated the match and a
24-12 margin in shots on net
for the winners helps prove
the point.,
FLYERS 9: HAWKS 3:
Along with the Wings-
Stars affair this is another
score that is very, misleading.
Depsite being whipped 9-3
by a tough Flyers- team the
Hawks actually played a
good game .of hockey for a
change,
After the first period, 'in
which the Flyers had built up
a 5-0 dead, the Hawks
actually dominated much of
the match.
Scott. King ' stopped. 3
