ON DROPPING IN
' BY BEA MALONEY:FADDEN .
We all long for, and need good human
companionship, dcriing such nourishment
from it.
Last night was , that kind of special
evening—a :quiet time of peace and
closeness
Such an easy sense' of 'fellowship
.twee each of us.as we around between sat a nand and
watched -the evening f ire. -
A neighbour,:my brother and. I. dropped
in at my aunt and uncle's home. Such dear
reliable faces from my entire childhood,
easy good conversation, no painful inter.
vats, no pretense,' no awkward silences that
sometimes occur when old 'friends meet
and find the passageof years • unbridge-
able. No need for any artificial stimulants.
Everyonejust being themselves, The
inexpressible comfort of not having ' to
weigh words. No one trying to impress the
other
The O'Keefe. Centre wouldn't.be going
bankrupt if you couldbuy tickets for that
kind of an evening
The atmosphere in their home had a
healing quality. A total lack of tension
between them, so supportive of each other.
"`Older' love" is a thing- of incredible
beauty. Both of them in the early winter of
their lives, with so much zest for living, it
was contagious.
How right it is to keep in touch, to care,
to affirm one another, to talk of things that
you believe in,
veto share thoughts and
g
worries and experiences, How right it is to
nourish friendships. How right it is to drop
in,
