To prepare for the festive season, she is making a doll crib as a gift for her granddaughter: 4x- date: husk an loved; Christrr 'Christmas is a time when families get together to celebrate a special occasion. It's a time when laughter fills the air, when parents and children open gifts, think of past Christmases and enjoy a hearty meal. But this all changes with the loss of a loved are. Christmas at the Oke home in Seaforth will be different this year because a husband, father and grandfather. Orville Oke died in April. "Christmas will be quiet at the Oke home this year," says Wilma Oke. "Our two daughters and in-laws always used to come to our place for Christmas." Orville was just like a big kid. He loved to mete things for his grandchildren. He was always building something. Christmas was alwaysspeal time,'"' she says. "We alw s ci used to put up outdoor decorations I haven't done anything the year. We always had a cedar Cbr1 tmas tree and 1 still don't have a tree. But I did do some baking." This year, Wilma will be spending Christmas in Burlington with her youngest daughter Mary. "My daughters made the decision not to have Christmas at home because their Dad wouldn't be here. They just couldn't face Christmas here: But if it had been up to me: 1 weuld have held Christmas." It will be a lot harder coming home because it's the first time I'm spending • \as Christmas away from home," says Wilma. "But 1'U still be preparing the turkey and we always do a lot of cooking. Orville always made the dressing and stuffed the turkey. 1 don't make as good a dressing as he did." Orville and Wilma always exchanged gifts. This year will be different. "1 have a terrible time when 1 walk past Stewarts and. the hardware stores. When the catalogues came out, I just flipped past the mens' section real fast. "Orville always got together with the girls to get me something. My last gift from him was a pink sweater and I gave . bum a grey, argyle sweater. Mary has it now and she's wearing it," says Wilma. "Christmas meant a treat deal to us. We are very family oriented. Last Christmas was very happy. We had a tree and friends dropped in to see us -- more than usual because Orville was sick. "This year, there are no parties to gd to. It's not very often people ask a single person to go and I wouldn;t go alone anyway because it wouldn't be very happy without Orville." "Orville and I had a happy life. We will have a happy Christmas this year because Orville would expect it. He was a special person. We will carry on for his sake. Orville will be with us in, spirit this Christmas," says Wilma. Over the river and through the woods, we're sending our messageof peace and good will, harmoy and good health to all our business associates, who have been like friends this entire year. Thanks!
