The December meeting of the. Was
Colum -
ban Catholic Women's League as held on
Monday. Dee,,12 with tibuffet-style supper at
• 7 p.m. The kitchen. of the 'church hall was
beautifully deooratedwith Christmas stream-
ers, tinsel, ornaments, and centrepieces on
the.tables. .
Carol Ryan president welcomed the
ladies. EatherOostveen said the Respect For
Life PrOer and everyone helped themselves
to a wide selection of casseroles, salads.
meats and desserts.
While everyone was enjoying their tea or
coffee. Santa arrived and distributed a gift
and a treat to each, provided they were trying
to be good.
Agnes Murray was presented with a
C.W.L. 50 year pin by Father Oostveen
assisted by Margaret O'Reilly. Two other
ladies Theresa Maloney and`Eileen Cronin,
unable to be present. will also receive SO
year pins.
Parents, grandparents. children and
friends thoroughly enjoyed an hour and a half
of entertainment when the children of St.
Columban School presented their annual
Christmas concert on Wednesday afternoon
Dec. 14.
A welcome to all was given- by Brian
Melady followed by a play "Elland" by
grades 1-2-3.
The school choir then sang three carols
followed by a play "Johnny Makes a Sale" by
grade 7 & 8. A play "Santa on • Trial" was
presented by grades 4-5-6 and a French play
The Nativity Scene" was presented by
grades 4-8.
Skits. songs and dances were done by
grades 1-2-3 and a play "A Few Friends to
to -Dinner" was presented by grades 7 and 8.
The sound of bells let the children know
Santa had arrived with a treat for each child.
Patricia Crowley assisted the children with
their singing at the, piano.
Joseph Bicknell of St. Peter's Seminary,
London is -spending the holidays with his
parents, Mr. and Mrs. Francis Bicknell.
Mr. and Mrs. Raymond Murray spent
three days recently visiting with Mr. and
Mrs. Joe Murray and family to Sudbury.
Joe Claessens of Kenora is spending two
weeks with his parents Mr. and Mrs: Matt
Claessens. Joe said when he left Kenora on
Friday the temperature was -40°. Also at the
Claessens home on the weekend were Mr.
and Mrs. Frank Claessens of Milton and\
Martha Claessens of London.
Mr. and Mrs. Jim Subject and family of
Kitchener visit d,�n'the weekend with Mr.
and Mrs. CI InceRyan.

The Cromarty Presbyterian W.M.S.
met at the home of Edna Stoneman on
Tuesday afternoon for their regular Decem-
ber meeting.
Betty Dow who presided and led in the
worship.
Taking part were Agnes Lamond, Lillian
Douglas. Edna Stoneman. Lila McKaig. and
Dorothy Miller. The singing of appropriate
carols was accompanied by Muriel Scott and
Betty Dow led in prayer.
Muriel Scott's topic. Christmas is a time of
peace. reminded us that in the Bible we are
promised peace. 1t is the fruit of justice and
righteousness.
The study book material for 1984 was
discussed. Secretary. Lillian Douglas is to
send to the Glad Tidings an account of the
80th anniversary celebration' in November.
An amusing skit by Dorothy Miller and
Betty Dow pointed to the need for us to cealizc
that people in far-off places are our
neighbours and many need our help. Agnes
Lamond reported 12 cards sent and 8 visits
made to the sick and shut-ins.
At Sunday's church service. Susan Lachnit
entertained the congregation'with an accord-
ian solo. Whispering Hope, and along with
Betty Lou Norris at the organ. Ushers for the
month of December are Robert Laing and
Lloyd Miller

Tun McDonnell of RR1 Gadshill was
named as chairman of the building. property
and transportation committee. The members
of the committee are William Kinahan of
Lucknow, Michael Moriarty of RR2 Bayfield,
board chairman Ron Murray of RR2 Dublin
and Vincent McInnes of RR2 Wingham.
The chairman of the personnel and
teacher negotiation committee is Ernest '
Vanderschot of RR7 St. Marys. The
