BY SUSAN HUNDERTMARK
Bryan Peter, the town's recreation
director has returned from a four day
recreation conference at Geneva Park (near
Orillia) with a renewed sense of enthu-
siasm and 'several ideas to try in Seaforth.
"The nice thing about conferences is you
return home raring to get going on new
projects and continue others." he says.
Two sessions in particular - one on
community development and another on
programming for youth- best applied to
recreation in Seaforth. The first dealt with
how to get community groups involved and
how to help them if they are active.
"It's important we (the recreation
department) can be used as a resource and
to promote all the groups. If we get tied
down offering a lot of programs ourselves,
we don't have as much time to help other
groups," he says.
The session on programming for teens
and families suggested ways to find out
what people, especially teens, want. A
questionnaire is one technique.
"Every community at the conference
had trouble programming for teens.
We're not alone," says Mr. Peter. "It's
hard guessing what teens want. if
would tell us, we'd try to provi -it.
