What a summer! On no goockaa by CaQoD©' uQ © — — ,What a summer for wea- ther! After the spring had given us such a cold wet start to the golf season, it was hard to imagine we'd later be saying that it was too darned hot to golf 1 With the tempera- ture and humidity so high many of us were more con- cerned about what to wear than what to hit. The hot summer did supply golfers with many advantages though. We had day after day of good weather and early in the morning or after supper golfers flocked out to enjoy their game. Mind you, at high noon it was often reminiscent of the Gary Cooper film out here. The long dry spell- we had was not only hard on the course but the greenkeeper as he raced hither and yon trying to live up to the green portion of his title. While the fairways got harder and browner and the weatherman took verbal abuse, the golfers enjoyed their longest drives of the season. As the drives went farther the scores got lower and for about three weeks we enjoyed those best ever rounds. Even a worm burner went a mile! RAIN Finally after washing the windows, the car, hanging out ,the laundry and doing t sevral raindances...it rained and rained and rained. From cement to soup in 12 hour. Our long drives were cut In half but the emerald green of the course made up for the higher scores. During the summer we have had to adapt to many conditions and play the game accordingly. Now with au- tumn and jack frost sneaking up on us, we will have to make further adjustments. The trick is to lengthen our short Canadian summers out and enjoy golf until ski season arrives. Soon the shorts and IONE /NM •W. plow in plastic or clay tile •Laser controlled grade •No back filling •No stones to pick •No sub-soll on top For more Information, pt•os. writ• RR 4 Stratford, Ont NSA 6S5 or cell Iddeoeal noto$ Sales, Service Chemicals, Accessories WHIRLPOOLS & PATIO FURNITURE BULK LIQUID CHLORINE 527-0104 234 Main St., Seaforth 271-4777 OIL BUST PROOFING *111 \ 251"car Calf for appointment Paul Kruse "Licenced auto body mechanic" CaII us Saturdays or weekdays after 8 p.fr 527-1334 tops of summer will be .replaced by the slacks and sweaters of fall. Dressing for the weather is the only way to enjoy any sport and golf is no exception. Just as dressing warmly in the spring will give you a jump on the golf season, doing the same in the fall will let you enjoy the game longer. Dress in layers so that when the sun does beat down, ' that heavy cardigan or velour can be tucked in your golf bag until needed again. Heavy dews in the morning make water proof shoes a real. advantage. Not only are your feet kept comfortably dry, but your good leather shoes won't be ruined either. Once the weather gets really cool then the truly avid golfer will have to consider cold ,weather apparell de- signed for the golfer who just won't quit. There are lined golf shoes, ultra thin thermal underwear, pure lambswool and cashmere sweaters, pocket hand warmers and golfers toques. Once you're dressed for the cold weather you can enjoy golf well into the late fall. ••••ss•• The final round of the club championship was played on Sunday and at the end of three rounds Ken Doig and Ian Doig were tied with 136 for the total of their best 2 rounds.
