When Bob Darker's contact Gerard: Meidinger• I;n the matchlay events: F9r, the brad Smith, Den Eaton Trophy, Jamie. Cald- weil defeated' John 'Wilson, and Jamie now meets Jim by Coir©L © ® blondes point out boats, dishwashers, and, trips to the Orient, everyone is' notably excited,.,.but when the cur- tains open to reveal a car... well the contestants and the audience go absolutely wild!! A car was certainly the main attraction on Saturday when the local course was the site of the Ford Open, Men and women alike were lured by the opportunity to, win a spanking new Ford car. There were a couple of • catches though. The main one being that you had to be the first person during the tournament to get a :tole in one on the•14th hole. That is quite a catch in itself, but when you also consider thah the 14th hole was 130 yards • long, the wind was blowing, and you had to hit a little white ball, with a golf club, and put it into a very small hole, well Catch-22 has noth- ing on that. However, the \ topper was that in the 20 or so years we've been in operation, we average one ace a year. and Gail Price holed out there just 12 days top soon!! Regardless of the minimal chances for the one big shot, sixty golfers took part in the event which was complete with television cameras on the 14th. It was the first time we ever had to give a free drop from the T.V. tower,.. just like the big time..Blamc it on the wind or even camera shyness, but in any case the car was driven back to the lot at the end of the day. Greg ('ore of Seaforth was the closest at 12 feet. Brian McCowan also of Seaforth won the event with a line mond of two under 70 and the left hander also hammer- ed out the longest drive. The casual handicap system was used so that all calibres of golfers had an equal chance. Winners at last week's men's night were Harry Jansen, Jack Eisler. Karl Teichert, and Brian Maher. Ken ('ardno won the balls. At ladies' night Lynda Huard, Barbara' Scott, Gail Price and Betty Watson went home winners. On Monday, Aug. 29 we are hostessing the Mitchell and Lislooel ladies so he sure to juin us for sonic fun. The final men's event is Saturdag, Sept. 17• one week after the Men's Invitation.
