Of the3eaforth Men's Recreational Softball
League Invitational Tournament, two Sea -
forth testis met to deckle the "A" division
dhampto'tiship. The 22nd and final game of
the tournament, held this past weekend at
the Lioris Park, saw the Seaforth Creamery
defeat the Turf' Club 5 • 0 behind the
five -hit pitching of ace righthander Doug
Leonhardt,
The Creamery reached the final game by
defeating Exeter Derby Dip Shakers 2-1 in
a 10 -inning thriller on Saturday morning,
then nipped the Queen's Hotel 2-1 on
Sunday morning, and followed that with a
comeback 2-1 squeaker over Gord's Blue
Crew from Exeter in one "A" division
semi-final on Sunday afternoon.
The Turf Club reached the championship
final for the first time by defeating Mt.
Carmel Bullets 5-4 on Saturday morning,
Seaforth Villagers 2-1 on Saturday night.
and Workman s Homers from Clinton 3-2
in a thrilling comeback with twe Rut in the
bottom of the seventh inning ifi the other
"A" division semi-final game on Sunday
afternoon.
The championship game was scoreless
until the top of the third inning when a
two -out double by Kevin Bennett followed
by a single by Rick Fortune plated the first
run. The Creamery broke the game open in
the top of the fourth when singles by John
Cairns, John Wilson, Ralph Wood and
Kevin Bennett, a sacrifice bunt and a Turf

Club error added three more rtins.
The Turf Club threatened to get back
into the game, In the bottom of the fifth
inning when ,singles by Murrayenderson
and Mark McLlwain and a Creamery error
loaded the bases with one out, Out a
force -out at home plate and a strike out
took them out of the inning
In the top of the seventh, Rick Fortune's
triple and Jerry Cooper's single scored the
. final Creamery run:'T•he Turf Club staged a
mild threat in the bottom of the seventh but
Doug Leonhardt's 34th strike out of the
weekend sealed. the victory for, the
Creamery and allowed them to successfully
defend the championship they won in last
year's tournament.
As "A" champions. the team received
$250 and a trophy and each player received
an engraved beer stein courtesy of Carling
O'Keefe. The Turf Club received $175 as
"A" runners-up.
Lawries from Blyth won the "B"
consolation 'championship when four
straight singles netted three runs in a
sixth -inning rally that carried them to a 4-3
win over the Derby Dip Shakers from
Exeter.
The Shakers eliminated Zurich D J's and
Zurich Doininion Tavern to gain a spot in
the "B" final. Barry Bromley went 2 for 3
in the championship game including the
key 2 -run single in the sixth inning rally.
For winning the "B" championship,
Lawries received 1125 and a trophy and
each player received a cooler pack. As "B"
runners-up, the Shakers won 185.
TOURNAMENT MVP—Doug Leonhardt, pitcher for the
Seaforth Creamery was named most valuable player In the
"A" division after his team defeated the Turf Club 5-0 In
the championship game. He struck out 34 batters Including
10 in the final game.•

Kathy Coombs both hit home
runs.
The next game, against
Goderich Elevators, was won
12-9 by Seaforth. Kathy
Coombs hit a home run.
In the third game Seaforth
won 18-4 over the Listowel

The 44th annual Thomson
Reunion was held on July 17,
1983 at the home of Dave and
Hazel Moyer, R.R.1, Parry
Sound. There was an attend-
ance of 49.

by John Thomson, Kippen.
Marriages and births during
the year were recorded and a
moment's silence was ob-
served in memory of those
who died since the last
reunion.
The 1.984 reunion will be
held at St. Christopher's
Beach, Goderich on the third
Sunday in July. The Execu-
tive for 1984 is: President -
