To celebrate the occasion the family held open house for their parents June 19 in the Fellowship.Room of Zion Lutheran Church, Stratford. The couple are active members of the church and its organizations. A family dinner followed at the Stratford Golf and Country Club. The couple had a family of three sons and one daughter; Gary and daughter-in- law Barbara of Goderich; daughter-in-law Barbara Sholdice of Stoney Point; Roger and daughter-in-law Ruth Sholdice of Georgetown; Beverley and son-in-law Allan Wagner of St. Marys. One son Warren died in 1981. They have ten grandchildren: Paul, Mark, Judy, Jeffrey, Gregory, Stephen and Scott Sholdice, ' Kyle, Ryan and Troy Wagner. The couple met when Russell came to Brodhagen as a banker. They owned and operated Sholdice's General Store and Post Office which they purchased from her father and uncle Harold Diesel in 1948. they moved to Stratford 16 years ago. Russell was then employed with Aiken - Brewer Lumber Co., Ltd. Shakespeare, until his retirement and Mrs. Sholdice was a part-time employee of the Canadian Tire Store for a number of years. Russell is long time member of the Lions Club and a past president and director of the Stratford Horticulture Society. The couple were married at St. Peter's Lutheran Church, Brodhagen, by the late Rev. S. Friedericksen. A dinner and reception was held at the home_of the bride's parents on a beautiful summer day. There was open air dancing in the evening under a lovely summer sky. Archie Mann's Orchestra provided the music. The couple had a honeymoon to Niagara Falls and North Bay. Russell and Verna say the love of 50 years is getting a good partner. Many cards of congratulations and gifts were received also congratulatory certifi- cates from government officials and the Mayor City of Stratford. Sunday school launches balloons The flowers on the altar in St. Peter's Lutheran Church, Brodhagen, were in observ- ance of Mr. and Mrs. Jacob Gloor's 59th anniversary. Congratulations. - The Sunday School upper grade children and their teachers went to a lot of work to prepare for the service on Sunday. After the service the children launched balloons with their names and ad- dresses in them, • telling whoever finds a balloon of the 125th anniversary at St. Peter's Church this fall. They are hoping to hear from some one and would like to know what distance their balloons travelled. A potluck dinner, was enjoyed by all, followed by games. The church service begins at 10:00 a.m. next Sunday July 3 for the sum- mer months. Many local and area -peo- ple attended the wedding and reception of Judy Adams and Robert Bennewies. Bill Lemmon of Mitchell. Mr. Lemmon is the vice principal of North western High Schools Strat- ford.' Hehas worked in the field of secondary education for 22 years.. Mr. Lemmon spoke to the graduates on their future and the new way of life they would be entering. They would meet new faces and encounter many new places and situations, he said. When one leaves grade eight and enters grade nine, you are not a big wheel any longer but you become a very small spoke in a very big wheel or as the senior grades in high school refer to the new ?rade nines, 'little nip- pers. As these young students enter high school they are lookingfor new independ- ence and more excitement but•they must also be ready to cope with the peer pres- sure they will encounter. Larry Cook, Principal of St. Patrick's School, Dublin and Terry Craig, the grade eight teacher presented the gradu- ating class with their diplo- mas and Mrs. Martina Mea- gher, President of the Catho- lic Women's League present- ed each student with a Rosary. Pat Cnochart, Betty Ann Deloyer, Nancy Ernst, Donna Gaffney, Anita Looby, Joe Looby, Linda Louwagie, Janet McCarthy, Pat Mc- Carthy, Jamie McIver, Lauri K. Rowland, Tracey Ryan, Margaret Ann Ryan, Joe Schoonderwoerd, Steve Stap- leton, Donna Van Bakel, Paul Van Bakel, Terry Vanden- berk,and•Tracy Vandenberk will alt attend Mitchell Dis- tract High School. Pat Murray will attend Seaforth District High School, Jim Poppe will, be going to Central Huron ip Clinton, Tony Terpstra will attend Listowel High and Michael Cronin will attend Regina Mandl in London. The Knights of Columbus award for top girl and top boy was presented by Mr. Cook to Donna Van Bakel and Paul Van Bakel. The Lions Club award for the most improved boy and girl was presented by War- ren Bennewies to Jim Poppe and Tracey Ryan. The award for leadership and citizenship was present- ed by Mr. Craig to Pat Murray and Donna Van Bakel. The caring and sharing of others award donated by Sister Florence was won by Anita Looby of grade eight and Julie Horan of grade seven. • The award for public speakin was presented by Mr. Craig to Donna Gaffney, senior winner and the junior winner was Sean Cook. Michael Cronin thanked the teachers, parents. C.W.L. and guests (and all that) for making graduation a memorable event in their Regeles have visit lives.
