A re- ported $556 was made for their efforts. The four units of the U.C.W. met for a joint meeting on Wednesday eve- ning in the church basement. Marilyn McDonald opened devotions with Call to Wor- ship and a reading about the meaning of Stewardship. Margery Fraser read scrip- ture. Helen Craig showed a film on "Partners", which ex- plained where mission money goes. Helen had displayed many different articles on Stewardship, and a quiz fol- lowed. Treasurer's report was given by Leona McDonald. It was decided money for a new fridge is to come out of the Manse fund. Anyone going to Alma College have your name in by the end of the month. Mrs. Audrey Tiffin of Wing - ham is to be guest speaker at UCW recognition Sunday in the fall. 17th and Boundary are putting flowers in church for this month. Walton has July and August. Good crowd at decoration service Sunny weather greeted a good crowd for the decoration service at Baird's Cemetery under the auspices of the Brucefield IOOF and Varna LOL on Sunday afternoon. Mr. D. A special Presbyterial get together at Camp Menese- tung will be held on June 16 Walton native retires A well-known Walton native, Barry Marshall, has retired after 35 years of public service. Mr. Marshall was postmaster in Walton from 1952 to 1967, but his postal career began earlier, during his four years in the army. He was a sergeant in the Canadian Postal Corps. From Walton he moved to Brigden as postmaster and then to Corunna in 1971. He's still in Corunna where he retired at the end of May as postmaster and supervisor for the Sarnia area post offices. For one thing, postal rates have risen from three cents to 32 cents for first class mail. When he was a rural postmaster in Walton he remembers stormy winter days when the rural mail carriers went out "when you couldn't see your hand in front of your face." There seemed to be a greater urgency then to make sure the mail got delivered, he told the Sarnia Observer. Mallen, were married in a double ring ceremony at Northside United Church, Seaforth on June 11, 1983. The maid of honour was Jayne Baker, sister of the bride. The bridal attendants were Barbara Chesney, cousin1of the bride, and Margaret Sills, friend of the bride. The groomsman was Frank Tine, and ushers were Michael Gauthier and Jerry Chopik, all friends of the groom. Rev. James Vanslyke officiated. Organist was Audrey, McLlwain and soloist was Margaret Sills. Guests attended from Toronto, Welland, Hamilton, St.Catharines, London, Houston, Texas, Wingham, Stratford, and Seaforth.
