DON'T GIVE UP Everyone has a tendency to give up a little bit when times are tough. especially if they have arthritis and are going through a period of "flare up" and are experi- encing some pain. Try not to because its an easy pattern into which to fall. Plan your day and your work and you'll find that you can accomplish everything you want to with- out too much difficulty. ALL ARE INVITED After a short break, Patricia is back BY PATRICIA RIMMER Hi! I'm back. If you can remember. about a month and a half ago 1 wrote my column explaining that 1 needed a break and wouldn't be writing again for a few weeks. At that time I wasn't sure whether • the kids' column should continue or not. Well, after many weeks of thought. 1 have reached a . verdict and the column wi continue until 1 finish hig school a year from now. In the last month, a lot has been on my mind. 1 am in one of those confusing stages when you have no idea what you are going to do but have to make up your mind in a hurry. All my life, the future has been years away. College was something that 1 wouldn't have to worry about until I grew up. Well. I guess 1 have finally grown up (a surprise to many of my friends and family) because it is now time to start worrying about college, university or getting a full time job. , It seems that the best.thing for a grade 12 student who doesn't know which way to turn is to go to grade 13. That extra year at school and at home may be vital in choosing the career that you really want. I know how it is to be chapging ideas every day about the future. A MILLIONAIRE When 1 was younger, m y dream was to get through high school. marry a million- aire. live in a big fancy house with 20 kids and live happily ever after. Needless to say, my views have changed. The perfect dream for me is to complete high school, get a collegepr university diploma, get married and have a job, then live 'happily ever after. Forget the millionaires, and start considering the dream of being employed. That is hard to do right now. The future is a hard thing to imagine. In a time when the government isn't even sure what is going to happen, how are we supposed to anticipate what the future will be? When 1 sit down to fill out application forms for college or university, how am 1 to know that 1 will actually attend? Things can happen so fast now-a-days.take for exam- ple the school in Germany where several children were killed and injured by a gun- man who decided to open fire for no apparent reason. The od en life. passengers aboard the air- an1 Benjtill don't noww what 1 will plane that started on fire probably did not realize what do in a year when 1 have to their trip would be like when choose a tintveisity' or col - they boarded the plane. lege. I guess 'I'll have to wait MAINT#!ING until, then, to see. Justre- e sin 1f in`g"ffiat 1 can member that "41'o8Yy 'ls the + see is that you are happy in tomorrow you worried about what you do. Seven weeks yesterday." ago I wasn't sure that I liked writing this, column. 1 didn't know if anyone read it and I didn't feel I was giving my all to it. On May 30. 1 celebrated my fourth anniversary of writing Kids Teens In Be- tweens and it was then that I realized how much 1 do enjoy writing this column. A man could be earning 520 an hour in a job and still not be happy with his work. Life will be just dandy as far as paying the bills. but how much happiness can a person get out of ajob that he or she really doesn't like? 1 have been considering this a lot. Right now, when 1 see people with university degrees standing in the unemploy- ment line, 1 realize what a tough world it is and then 1 can see how lucky I am to be able to write this column, have good friends in Seaforth ST.THOMAS ANGLICAN CHURCH 21 Jarvis St., Seaforth Rev.
